Hello darlings, and welcome back to the fabulous Pink-Tutu time travel blog! This month, we're taking a twirl back to the 12th of December, 2021. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Emma, how is this even remotely historical? It's practically yesterday!"
But darling, as any true drag queen knows, every era is worthy of a little glamification, a dash of sparkle, and a good dose of fabulousness! Besides, even recent history has some amazing stories, especially when we talk about the world of drag!
So grab your glitter, pop on a playlist with all the bops, and join me as I whisk us through a day full of glitter, gowns, and glorious moments. This time travel adventure is not one to be missed, especially with my newest, super-sparkly pink tutu that came straight from the fashion ateliers of... well, that's a secret. Let's just say that my time travel wardrobe is getting as fabulous as my blog. 😉
A Big ol' Pink Tutu Blast From The Recent Past
Now, on the 12th of December, 2021, let's just say that the drag scene was absolutely buzzing. Like a beehive full of glittering, honey-sweet divas! This date, ladies and gentlemen, marked the second night of the 2021 RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Season 1 Finale, which I totally caught. Remember that iconic performance from Kita Mean, the queen of “The Power of Drag", that left everyone floored? This is exactly why we time travel - to witness those breathtaking moments.
You wouldn't believe the drama that unfolded, the dazzling outfits that graced the runway, and the jaw-dropping lip sync performances that had us all glued to our screens. Even if I'd been right there, front row in the audience, the glittery energy from these Queens was reaching me here in Derbyshire.
That same day, the Queen of all Queens, RuPaul, dropped the biggest teacup! It was officially confirmed: Season 14 of RuPaul's Drag Race, which we’d heard rumors of, was coming in just a few weeks! My goodness, how exciting! What better excuse for a marathon viewing party with the girls, topped with the largest bowl of popcorn, a massive rainbow-coloured milkshake, and naturally my most spectacular pink tutu.
But hey, it wasn't all about drag racing! It was also a night to appreciate some stunning performances by some iconic names. On December 12th, we saw The Vivienne in full drag-tastic form in Manchester. If you have never seen Vivienne live, it’s an absolute must, especially if you can find her show in your own city. She absolutely steals the show and even her biggest fans never want to see her go. And as we all know, The Vivienne was just the start. Drag Queens were tearing up stages and rocking nightclubs all over the world. There's something so exhilarating about watching drag queens take over the world. And I mean, look at this little time-traveling queen. If I can conquer the time stream, with the aid of my most flamboyant pink tutu, then you, yes you, darling, can do absolutely anything.
The Power of Pink
Oh, speaking of conquering! Do you think the Queen of Drag herself, RuPaul herself, would have the nerve to rock a pink tutu? I'll let you ponder on that as I remind you, you don't need a time machine or magical garments to rock a pink tutu. Any one of you can! Remember my friends: the most important thing is not about what we wear, it's about how we feel wearing it! That’s where I believe I have a mission! My dream is that one day, everyone, everywhere, will join me in embracing the delightful magic of a pink tutu. We could even turn it into a global phenomenon! Just imagine all those people strutting around in these fluffy pink tutus… it would be an incredible vision of beauty and liberation. Maybe we could have Pink Tutu Day? Pink Tutu Month? Think about it, darlings, think about it!
As for myself, I’m sure there will be other historical drag milestones to celebrate in the coming year. I'm constantly making new friends, attending drag shows (even virtually - how brilliant are video links!), discovering fascinating facts about the queens and the stories of our magnificent history!
