Darlings! Itās your girl Emma, back from a whirlwind time travel adventure and ready to share a splash of fabulousness! This month, my magical pink tutu whisked me off to January 2022, where a world of incredible drag unfolded before my eyes. Iām talking dazzling performances, iconic queens, and a whole lotta glitter!
First, a little about my humble beginningsā¦ As you know, I'm a Derbyshire gal at heart, obsessed with everything pink, everything tulle, and most importantly, everything DRAG. So, naturally, when my time travelling pink tutu materialized, I had to grab my trusty lipstick and glitter, and hit the road (or, more accurately, the time vortex!)
2022: Where The Magic Began
January 2022 was bursting with excitement! I had the opportunity to catch some legendary queens strutting their stuff on stage, and I felt a wave of euphoria every single time!
RuPaul's Drag Race: The UK Season 3 was just starting! The world watched in anticipation as 12 fabulous queens battled it out for the title of āUK's Next Drag Superstar.ā There were so many talented individuals that it was hard to predict who would be the ultimate winner. I was absolutely obsessed!
āQueens Are The New Black,ā The Netflix Special: Imagine a vibrant kaleidoscope of drag queens, sassy comments, and a touch of activism. This special, starring the likes of Bianca del Rio, Bob the Drag Queen, and Jinkx Monsoon, celebrated the importance of drag and brought it to the forefront of mainstream entertainment.
- Drag Race: Season 14, and its winner Willow Pill, was still fresh on everyone's minds. Remember her iconic win? Such an amazing queen with an ethereal look and a powerful voice!
Seeing the Future of Drag in 2022
As I travelled back through the timeline, I couldnāt help but marvel at the drag scene of 2022! It felt incredibly dynamic and diverse, and it's truly exciting to see how drag continues to evolve.
Hereās a snapshot of what else caught my eye in January 2022:
The Rise of Drag Documentaries: The documentary "Drag Kids," about young LGBTQIA+ individuals expressing themselves through drag, was receiving a lot of buzz! It highlighted the positive impact that drag could have on children. It's so heartwarming to see acceptance and inclusion growing!
Drag Beyond the Stage: Drag artists were using their platforms for social activism, and that really inspired me. More and more queens were speaking out about important issues and making a difference! I feel so proud to be part of this empowering community.
What I Learned During My Time Travel
Every time travel adventure is a lesson in drag, and I definitely walked away from 2022 with a renewed appreciation for the craft.
Community is everything: The drag scene is built on love, acceptance, and a deep sense of community. Whether you're on stage or in the audience, you're part of something truly special.
Itās okay to experiment: Drag is a world of creativity, and the more we experiment, the more we push the boundaries. Don't be afraid to try new looks, explore different genres, and express your unique style.
