Hiya darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, here, ready to whisk you away on a glamorous journey through the annals of drag history! Grab your pinkest lipgloss, a fluffy boa, and maybe a sprinkle of glitter – because this month, we're diving deep into the vibrant world of drag during September 2022!
As you know, I'm always on the hunt for new pink tutu-tastic adventures. It's not always easy being a fashion-forward, time-hopping ballerina queen, but the rewards are always dazzling! So, let's take a spin in my enchanted tutu, shall we?
This month, my journey starts in the heart of London, where the drag scene was buzzing like a beehive of fabulousness! I found myself at the legendary The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, a venue dripping in drag history. Imagine, my darlings, a pub that's hosted legendary drag performers since the 1970s!
The crowd was electric, and the performances were out of this world. Blu Hydrangea, fresh from her RuPaul’s Drag Race UK success, was giving serious glamazon realness with her flawless looks and infectious energy. I caught myself dreaming of my own Drag Race audition, wondering what the judges would say to a pink-tutu-clad ballerina! (Maybe I should take some classes in lip-syncing…)
Another highlight was the fabulous Glitz & Glamour Show at The Camden Head. These shows are pure camp, pure fun, pure joy! The lineup was packed with incredible talent, each queen bringing their own unique flavour to the stage. Imagine – glittery disco beats, stunning costumes, and enough camp to fill a clown college! It was absolute heaven.
But my travels didn't end in London, my lovelies. I had to check out what was happening in my beloved Derbyshire, too! This September, a drag show at the Deva Fest, a vibrant queer arts festival in Chesterfield, had me doing a grand jeté of excitement! It's truly wonderful seeing drag become more and more accessible across the country, bringing glamour and laughter to every corner!
Speaking of access, my journey took me all the way to the digital world, where drag queens were captivating audiences on Instagram and TikTok.
The legendary Divine said, "A drag queen never takes a night off" and it seems she wasn’t wrong! The creativity of queens all around the world was truly inspiring, with online drag performances taking off in a big way. I had a whale of a time dancing along to routines posted on TikTok – my time-traveling tutu needs some cardio, too!
Of course, what would a drag history blog be without some fabulous fashion moments?
September 2022 saw some serious trends taking shape: the resurgence of the '90s grunge look, bold pops of neon and the always-essential pink, naturally! Even on the red carpet, celebrities were experimenting with outlandish and playful drag-inspired fashion. It seems even the most famous folks can't resist a little bit of drag magic!
My dears, there is something absolutely exhilarating about seeing the drag scene flourish on a global scale. It’s about more than just glamour; it's about pushing boundaries, celebrating diversity, and finding your voice.
Now, I'm not just a time traveller; I'm also a dedicated pink-tutu ambassador! This month, I saw drag becoming even more accessible and inclusive. More than ever, the world is ready for a dose of glitter and joy, a sprinkle of magic and a touch of camp! So, what are you waiting for, darling? Grab your pinkest tutu and get out there and shine!
Until next month, stay fabulous and never stop celebrating drag history! You can find me over at www.pink-tutu.com – don’t forget to join our pink-tutu loving community and share your fabulous moments!
