Hey there, lovelies! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, back with another blast from the past!
This month, my magical tutu whisked me away to the vibrant, fabulous world of drag in June 2023. And oh, my darlings, what a month it was!
The first stop on my itinerary was New York City, a place that always manages to leave me speechless. This time, it was all about the grand RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 8. Can you believe it? Eight seasons of sheer talent and glamour all bundled together! We saw queens like Jimbo, Kahanna Montrese, and LaLa Ri sashay away in the competition. The season finale was pure fire! We even had Mo Heart crowned the winner, leaving me utterly starstruck!
But New York was only the start of my journey! My magical tutu then took me to London, where Drag Race UK Season 4 was in full swing! From Danny Beard‘s witty charm to Black Peppa‘s powerhouse performances, the season was bursting with energy. I was so captivated by the story of the young queen, Dakota Schiffer, as she gracefully walked through her journey on Drag Race UK. This season truly cemented London as the ultimate Drag Race destination!
While in the UK, I couldn’t resist a little shopping. My god, the fashion! From vintage lace at Portobello Market to contemporary creations on Bond Street, London simply doesn't disappoint.
Now, on to a place I simply adore, the legendary city of Los Angeles. I’ve been obsessed with RuPaul’s Drag Race since season one, so naturally, a visit to the Drag Race filming set was on my to-do list. As I peered through the windows of the studio, I caught glimpses of some of the contestants’ elaborate looks and the intense atmosphere. I felt like I was watching drag history unfold before my eyes!
From the buzzing metropolis of Los Angeles, my time-traveling adventure led me to San Francisco. In San Francisco, I delved into the rich history of drag at the iconic drag show, Mother’s. It was a real eye-opener, witnessing a night of classic camp, fierce performance, and authentic storytelling. You wouldn't believe the incredible stories I heard from the drag legends of the city!
Now, you can’t talk about June 2023 in drag history without mentioning the massive World of Wonder Pride Festival in Los Angeles. Imagine thousands of drag enthusiasts gathering under the Californian sun for a celebration of drag! From dance battles to art installations, the atmosphere was electric! I saw performers like Bianca Del Rio, Jinkx Monsoon, and Violet Chachki captivating the audience, showcasing their fierce talent. It truly felt like an extraordinary celebration of drag!
The highlight of my journey though, was seeing Aquaria, Peppermint and Trixie Mattel headline an LGBTQ+ event for LoveLoud Festival. I just love a pop queen moment! They are all absolutely incredible in their own way, their performances were utterly magnetic, making it clear why they're global drag superstars.
But hey, remember my aim in life, lovelies? That's right, to get everyone wearing a pink tutu! I couldn't resist showing off my tutu skills and incorporating a touch of ballet in my travel diary, and let me tell you, it made a real splash in June 2023! Imagine a time-travelling pink tutu dancing alongside some of the most famous drag queens in the world, all under the sparkling lights of Pride parades and stage performances! That’s what we’re about, darlings, a world of inclusivity, creativity, and all things fabulous.
