Hiya darlings! It’s Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad, time-traveling queen, back with another sensational blast from the past! I'm talking June 2024, dolls! I don’t know about you, but I feel a positively divine amount of '80s energy flowing through my fabulous veins today. And you just know I can’t be the only one who just knows a glorious tutu moment was bound to happen!
This month, my pink tulle-tastic tutu whisked me right into the midst of the dragaction, a fab journey through June 2024. Now, you might not have your diaries out, but trust me when I tell you - it was *all about the moves, and the looks, love!
I'm not gonna lie - I went all out this month with a fab pink ensemble I was sporting, a vintage creation with sparkly bows and tulle that even Barbarella would’ve envied! Talk about feeling myself, darlings. I even did a quick stop at a retro 2024 wig shop and scooped up a fluffy neon pink bob to match the look! It was divine!
Landing in June 2024, the air buzzed with excitement, a feeling so thick you could spread it on toast and call it a drag queen spread (which is absolutely delicious, by the way.) You couldn’t walk down the street in that time without bumping into someone getting ready for their next drag performance! Talk about drag queens doing their thing, living their truth, serving looks like nobody's business. It was the epitome of "drag in full bloom," as a dear queen would say!
You’ll be delighted to hear that this year’s International Drag Gala had everyone buzzing! What a glorious evening it was, hosted at the stunning New York City Opera House, complete with shimmering chandeliers, plush velvet curtains and even more sequins than a drag queen's nightmare! The sheer artistry and spectacle were beyond compare! It was such a great honor to witness drag talent from all corners of the globe shining their bright lights on the stage. They really pushed the boundaries and brought down the house! I'm still trying to erase that glitter from my sequins – that’s how fabulous it was!
Talking about talent, the whole world was obsessed with the UK's very own Drag Race royalty - The Queen’s Choice. It was absolutely brilliant! You could feel the excitement from a whole country and I must confess, even though I’ve got a strong case of T-Time (aka travel sickness, the s is for sequins ) – I stayed up past my usual 9 p.m. bedtime to see how the fabulous finalists would claim their crown! A huge congrats to all the talented queens, you were all absolutely phenomenal - but that final lip-sync… well let's just say I still need to pick up my jaw off the floor.
I wouldn’t want to spoil anything, but if you’re a lover of the magic of drag - and who isn’t? - make sure to check out The Queen’s Choice, or for my overseas queens out there - there are plenty of international Drag Race shows all ready to put on a show-stopping spectacle. I bet there’s even a local drag club in your town, where you can enjoy some drag queens doing their best to bring that same joy, humour and love that makes it all so fabulous!
One thing that really struck me in June 2024 was the emerging love of tutu drag, not to mention that whole ballerina thing. It was like, the whole world was in love with those swishy, pretty skirts! I must confess – even I found myself hitting up my favourite 2024 designer’s studio (they were in Brooklyn, such hipsters, you wouldn't believe it! ) to commission my very own custom pink tutu with matching sparkly tiara.
And guess what, my darlings – my tutu’s so in, it didn’t even require a time travel journey. Now you’re really listening. If there’s a lesson to be learned, it’s this - be brave, and always let your fabulous self shine, whether you’re getting ready to take on the stage, or just going to the local bakery! There's a star queen inside us all, darlings!
