Pink Tutu Travels: July 2025, Post #1267

Hello darlings, Emma here, and it's time for another magical trip through the glamorous corridors of Drag Queen History!

This month, my darling, my trusty pink tutu and I took a trip back to July 2025, a glorious year for drag in the grand scheme of things. Imagine a world where the word "drag" was simply shorthand for a performance art genre, celebrated for its creativity, humour, and, most importantly, its fierce beauty. That's what July 2025 was like, darlings. Imagine a time where even the poshest grandmothers had started adding a touch of pink sparkle to their lives, embracing a touch of drag magic. (Don't worry, no-one ever had to actually wear a tutu. Though, a pink fascinator was considered the ultimate "gran" accessory!).

My landing point this month was in New York City, the epicentre of fabulousness. The city, as always, pulsed with an electrifying energy. I, of course, was in a stunning fuchsia tutu, a glorious explosion of frills and tulle, fit for a queen! The very first thing that caught my eye, darling, was a billboard across the street - a gigantic image of Shangela! She'd gone full Hollywood, her drag queen history now enshrined in Tinseltown glory. Apparently, they had a musical about her life, The Queen of All Stars. Extra, I thought, with a flourish of my pink fan. It was the start of a magical July in drag history!

But enough about me, let's delve into the vibrant tapestry of drag history. This was a month of truly spectacular drag, with exciting developments unfolding across the world.

A Drag-tastic Day in the Big Apple:

First, darlings, was the grand opening of the "Drag Museum: A Celebration of Queer Expression". Now, this was history with a capital H! It was a place where you could celebrate the legendary figures like Divine, Judy Garland, * and *Lady Bunny. The museum featured displays that highlighted the drag's influence on fashion, theatre, music and even politics! Oh darling, it was pure fabulousness, complete with a magnificent ballroom where they were holding special screenings of Drag Race All Stars!

The second highlight of my trip was the “Queens for a Cause” Charity Ball in Central Park. Now, the highlight wasn’t just the dazzling queens on stage (though they were all absolutely slaying!) but the fantastic charity this event was raising money for: "Drag it Out!", a grassroots organisation dedicated to fighting for LGBTQ+ rights. Now, talk about using your platform for good, darling!

My journey in New York, however, wasn't simply about glamorous shows. I discovered a delightful little shop on 42nd Street called "Pink Tutu Paradise." Yes, darling, a place dedicated to all things pink tulle. The owner was a sweet, elderly gentleman, but his spirit was definitely “extra” darling! You couldn't leave without buying something. It was the epitome of pink, fluffy magic.

World-Wide Glamour and Glory:

After the glamour of New York City, my trusty pink tutu took me on a whirlwind trip around the world! In London, darling, I stumbled upon a brilliant drag performance on a little theatre stage tucked away in Covent Garden. This was a completely unexpected delight! It was a hilarious little piece of drag theatre - "The Ballad of the Broken Tutu," about the tragic downfall of a heartbroken queen whose once-pristine tutu got accidentally stepped on by a disgruntled drag dad during a particularly "extra" performance. Hilarious!

My journey continued to Berlin, a city full of a beautiful vibrant energy! I found myself sitting front row at the iconic "House of Berliner". They had a thrilling performance - it featured an amazing line up of international trans drag performers with an absolutely amazing combination of humour and artistry! These queens were pioneers and brought a whole new level of beauty and power to the world of drag.

Next stop? The heart of India, where I watched, in complete awe, the "Dussehra Drag Show." This particular performance had a twist, darling: it was hosted by a fabulous drag troupe who had brought Bollywood flair and traditional Indian music to the world of drag! There were dancing, glittery costumes, fabulous lip-syncs, and a celebration of Indian culture that truly wowed me.

I couldn't possibly leave July 2025 without a quick pit stop in the land down under. The drag scene in Australia, darling, was slaying in July. I spent an evening at a Drag Ball in Melbourne. This show featured a magnificent cabaret drag, hosted by a dynamic and captivating drag duo with killer vocals and the most dazzling choreography! They told the most beautiful and heart-wrenching stories with their routines that reminded us all that drag is not only about glamorous performance, but about storytelling and making your own unique expression in the world. The crowd, darling, was truly out of this world! They roared with laughter at the clever quips, and shed a few tears at the heartfelt moments, a testament to the power of a truly special drag performance.

From My Tutu to Yours:

My adventures in July 2025, darling, left me utterly charmed. The world was brimming with fabulous drag! As a true devotee of pink tulle, I saw first-hand the remarkable things that are happening within the drag scene, inspiring new generations to take centre stage and let their creativity flourish! I firmly believe that by sharing stories, experiences, and insights from this fantastical journey, we can make the world a little more "extra," a little more pink, and a little bit more filled with glorious magic.

So go forth, my lovelies, find your inner drag queen. Wear that pink tutu! You never know where the world of drag will take you next!

Till next month, darlings!

Love,

Emma
