Hiya darlings! Emma here, back from another whirlwind jaunt through the glamorous past! This month, my pink tutu transported me all the way to August 2028, a truly exciting time in our dazzling drag timeline!
The air was electric with anticipation! August 2028 was abuzz with fabulousness - think fierce runway walks, glittering stage performances, and a vibrant queer scene bursting with colour and creativity. Everywhere you looked, the drag family was celebrating itself!
This month, I'm all about sharing some highlights from this magnificent time! Let's twirl through it, darlings!
The Drag Scene: A Global Symphony of Sparkle
Right from the get-go, it was clear - 2028 wasn’t just about the big cities anymore! Drag was thriving in every corner of the world! From vibrant community centers in Derbyshire, England (yes, even my stomping ground had become a hotbed of drag) to dazzling drag balls across South America, it was a truly magical time to be alive, let alone a glamorous queen!
One particularly delightful discovery was a little independent theater in the heart of Prague. They were showcasing a production called "Drag: A Time Capsule," which delved into the history of drag across Europe - and quelle surprise! It even included some truly stunning archive footage of my very own grandma's 1980s drag show in a Derbyshire working men’s club! It was brilliant!
Speaking of historical moments, it was absolutely exhilarating to see the global drag scene in all its diversity, with the likes of the House of Rainbow in San Francisco being as much a fixture on the local drag scene as they were a global brand, while in Japan, they were celebrating a boom in kawaii drag performance. And in Brazil, they had been taking inspiration from the ancient ritual dance, “Cordao do Bola Preta" (a samba carnival street performance involving elaborate handmade, jewel-encrusted costumes), merging it with the power of drag, leading to a spectacle you simply couldn't miss.
Oh, darling, you could truly feel a shared sense of sisterhood and joy that crossed oceans and continents!
A Touch of Fashion:
Now, my lovely, this month's outfit choices are swoon-worthy, with an explosion of color, textures and designs! We're talking tulle galore, of course - it wouldn't be me if I wasn’t draped in yards and yards of this divine fabric - but let's get more specific, shall we?
Imagine fiercely beautiful ruched leotards, sleek, streamlined bodices and the sheerest chiffon skirts, creating a look that was simultaneously angelic and rebellious. Think metallic fabric with vibrant floral accents paired with bold jewelry that made a statement louder than a “werk” chant at the hottest ball!
But the hottest trend in 2028? The pink tutu! Yep, darlings, you heard it right. I may have been a little biased about it all being in pink, but that was the thing - everyone loved pink! My sartorial choices, it seems, were well-ahead of the fashion curve back then - not that I'm boasting!
What's Hot: On Stage
For all the sartorial glamour, what made the drag scene truly magical in August 2028 were the shows themselves. From high-camp, politically charged performances that made you think to theatrical spectacles that took your breath away, there was something for every taste.
One truly spectacular moment was attending a live musical, “Drag Me Down to the River." Imagine, a drag twist on “Riverdance,” only instead of Irish jigs, it was an immersive experience of ballet, breakdance, drag and live music! The finale, a vibrant and joyous display of color, left everyone in the audience breathless.
It really made me realize how the art of drag performance is always evolving and always looking for fresh ways to engage audiences.
More Than Just Glamour:
The drag scene wasn't just about fabulous outfits and dazzling shows; it was about something bigger. In 2028, drag queens became powerful voices for the LGBTQIA+ community everywhere. They used their platform to fight for equal rights and to celebrate diversity and inclusion, both on and off the stage.
The highlight? Seeing so many drag queens insisting on the inclusion of drag performances at major art museums in countries that were considered a little “behind” in terms of equality. They had a whole night called “Drag & Drop,” where queens from all walks of life performed, leading to a celebration of difference.
Even then, as a true aficionado of drag and a true believer in “pink tutus for all” , I couldn't help thinking that in some parts of the world, we’d have to keep on pushing and fighting to make sure everyone had the right to dress up and express themselves freely, no matter what they wore. And it’s why I love time travelling!
A Legacy of Inspiration:
As my magical tutu whisked me back to the present, I felt deeply inspired! In August 2028, drag was more than just a form of entertainment; it was a force for good in the world. It showed me how far we have come and how much potential we have for further change.
That’s what I love most about being a time-traveling drag queen – learning about the past helps us make a better future.
