Welcome back, lovelies! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, here for another delightful jaunt through Drag Queen History. Today, my darling darlings, weāre hopping back in time ā well, time travelling with my magic pink tutu, of course ā to August 2029!
Now, I know what youāre thinking ā the future? How could I possibly have been there? Let me tell you, dearie, this time travel lark gets a bit messy with all the paradox things. You know what Iām talking about ā "if you went back in time to meet your granny, you might not even be born to go back in time, so, like, what's a girl to do?". Well, honey, itās just a matter of keeping those tutu twirls and sequins sparkly. That, and an endless supply of fabulous wigs ā my hair budget never goes on holiday!
Speaking of sparkly, August 2029, as far as drag goes, was positively incandescent! Remember when the biggest challenge for a queen was whether your face paint was blending perfectly? That's all been thrown out the window. Drag, like the world itself, was bold and unapologetically diverse in the best possible way! I'm talking holographic feather fans, glitter cannons, augmented reality makeup, the lot!
Right then, buckle up because this time-travel adventure is going to take you from the glitter-drenched sidewalks of Tokyo to the dazzling stages of New York. But first, let's take a look at some fabulous fashions!
The Year of the Pink Tutu?Let me tell you, darlings, seeing a room full of queens all in pink tutus, each more unique and incredible than the last? Pure. Bliss. In 2029, there were tu-tu much amazingness! Now, I've always said, a pink tutu is the ultimate drag accessory, the piĆØce de rĆ©sistance, the crown jewel! Youāll always remember that one queen that looked positively divine with a bright, big, billowing tutu. And guess whoās wearing one to a big event? You guessed it ā your girl, Emma.
You know, I went all out on pink this month, even on the food ā pink cakes, pink drinks, the whole shebang! Every time I ate pink food, it felt like a victory, like a nod to a bygone era of glittery goodness.
Oh, darling, speaking of bygone eras, let's get back to the future. Because the time travelling doesn't stop there. Let's delve into my incredible time travel itinerary, shall we?
From Japan with Love - The Rainbow Revolution!First stop, Tokyo! My dear readers, the fashion was out of this world! Iām talking, ādid you buy a piece of the galaxy?" The colour palette ā holographic hues and celestial swirls - just magical. I had to twirl my way through the streets, darling! My sparkly pink tutu caught the eyes of all the glamorous locals.
I saw queens wearing traditional Japanese clothing reimagined, all sparkling and bright, then I spotted a drag show held in the oldest geisha house, full of glittery modern dance. I tell you, you haven't lived until you've seen a drag performance inside a tea room! Iām going to share my video of it with you lot soon on the Pink Tutu Channel!
There was a vibrant and electric energy there - it was like the rainbow had landed on Shibuya crossing! Iām telling you, darlings, Japan's love for drag just took me to a whole new level. It was beautiful ā like all those decades of vibrant cultural tradition bursting forth. I even saw an entire parade where the drag queens were on little platforms with microphones belting out pop songs and it was justā¦soā¦Japanese. I don't know what to tell you - the whole place felt like an over-the-top musical stage production - fabulous.
And the food! Darling, itās true what they say about their sushi - the freshest youāll ever taste! I mean, you know I had a little pink sushi party right? With sparkling pink lemonade, obviously. I even added a couple of pink lollipops for a dash of nostalgia - just because I can.
Now, who's ready to jet set to the next city?!
The Empire City and The Majesty of The Metropolitan Opera!Darling, from the glitter-drenched sidewalks of Tokyo to the iconic stages of New York City! Now, thereās a story that would be an utter sensation, to be shared across all those high-tech communications networks. You know me, lovelies, Iāve got an app for everything. From face filters and augmented reality makeup to apps for ordering food and the most exclusive drag events, Iām like the Queen Bee of digital trends.
This month's must-have fashion trend: futuristic fashion accessories. I'm talking laser-cut corsets with intricate holographic designs that changed colour with the light, and sparkling 3D printed gloves that transformed into flowing feathers for your grand entrances. My dear readers, the sky's the limit when it comes to dramatically fabulous accessories!
I can't resist getting all nostalgic, darling! I just adore the glamour and excitement of being in New York, especially because in 2029 I can literally walk in time and see it as it used to be. It's a constant game of, "That building looks amazing! Oh, look, they're adding that amazing new spire onto the building!ā
I always sneak in a visit to Broadway and even catch the metropolitan opera when I'm in town! In fact, this August they put on a performance with all-drag performers! You should have seen them doing 'La Bohème' all decked out in pink tutus! Honestly, I thought I was back at the Royal Opera House with my girl Darcey Bussell - except with more rhinestones, less pas de bourrée, and maybe a few too many glitter cannons - my oh my!
I even popped by The Stonewall Inn (though it felt more like a historic site in a time travelling sense!). Itās still an iconic location and was so beautiful with so many stories of freedom, expression, and joy - something we all need to hold onto as we travel through this crazy world, darling!
So much more... but I have to go!Darlings, it's almost time to pack away this beautiful pink tutu, (for now). There's a whole world of drag adventures out there. Think Paris. Think Rio de Janeiro. Oh, how I wish I had all the time in the world to travel and blog for you beautiful people! You wouldnāt believe the drag stories from Rome (who knew they had their own Drag Olympics?!).
But as I always say - better to pack a few glitter bombs and keep that pink tutu sparkly and ready for all those magical moments. Join me next month when I share my experiences at Septemberās amazing Fashion Week - I just know we're going to have a ball, darlings!
Catch ya later!
