Greetings my lovely darlings! Emma here, your pink tutu-clad, time-travelling blogger, coming to you live (well, kind of, as we're time travelling, duh!) from the glorious year of 2029. It’s a right treat to be back in my time machine, a.k.a., this pink, sparkly tutu (it really is magical, y’all!), as I embark on another extraordinary adventure into the annals of drag history!
Now, before we get into the glitz and glamour of this particular year, lemme tell you – the world of drag is just bursting with colour, creativity, and just plain fabulousness! It's like someone dropped a massive rainbow into a glittery washing machine and set it on a high spin cycle – it’s brilliant, dazzling and a whole heap of fun.
And in this time-traveling escapades, you wouldn’t believe how much drag has influenced fashion trends! Everywhere you look, people are rocking glitter, bold colours, and some seriously chic, fierce looks. Just try telling me those oversized feathered hats aren’t directly inspired by a fabulous queen on stage, yeah? I knew you'd agree!
So, 2029: a year of massive transformation in drag history, you might say? Absolutely! The lines between the drag stage and mainstream media have been thoroughly blurred. Queens are everywhere, my darlings! You've got them gracing television screens, magazine covers, fashion runways, even hosting their own talk shows. It's like drag is on the verge of becoming… well, EVERYTHING! And honestly, who wouldn’t want that, eh?
Okay, back to this particular jaunt, my loves!
As I spun through time in my trusty tutu, I landed in London, which seems to have become THE place for drag lovers! You've got drag festivals happening everywhere, queens doing drag shows on the top of the Tower of London – like, hello, that's some serious drag ambition right there! You name it, and the drag queens are rocking it in 2029. It's enough to make even this old, seasoned time-traveling queen go woop woop!
One of my favourite highlights this month was attending a Drag Queen History Fair. It’s a fabulous event that explores the fascinating and flamboyant evolution of drag, from its roots in ancient history right through to present day. The exhibition was filled with dazzling displays showcasing everything from vintage drag posters and costumes to cutting edge digital drag art and interactive experiences.
Talking of digital drag, another trend that blew my mind was Meta-Drag. This incredible development allowed fans to watch queens perform and interact with their favourite performers in a 3D, immersive, metaverse world. This means that drag is becoming more accessible than ever, breaking down barriers of geography and making it truly international! Imagine having your favourite queen literally in your living room, without them having to move a single sequin – that's 2029 for you, love!
But the real stars of the show, my loves, were the queens themselves. From fierce performance artists who stunned with their high-energy routines and elaborate costumes to charismatic storytellers who captivated audiences with their wit and wisdom, each queen brought their own unique brand of artistry to the table. The talent is absolutely insane!
Honestly, the talent and the creativity I've witnessed on this trip – oh my God, I've been gagged like ten times, and it's not even midday! Seriously though, drag is on another level here in 2029 – it's bigger, it’s bolder, it's more inclusive, it’s just fabulous!
Oh, and speaking of inclusivity, it’s absolutely everywhere. This year marks the first ever all-nonbinary drag contest called “The All-Gender Spectacular,” which took place in a beautiful converted chapel on the South Bank of London. All I can say is, these performers truly tore it up!
But one thing I have noticed about 2029, you won't believe this – drag isn't just on stage anymore. It’s bled into every part of society. Drag is on fashion runways, it’s on billboards, it’s even in mainstream films! Now, while I love the mainstream embrace, you’d be forgiven for wondering where's the raw, underground scene. It is there, trust me.
To witness the heart and soul of 2029’s drag scene, you need to get out there! I spent an afternoon visiting The Glitter Palace, a tucked-away bar, with drag nights every Wednesday and a Drag Queen Brunch on Sundays. The atmosphere was electrifying, and I felt a real sense of community there, you know?
But one place, I couldn't leave without experiencing, was a Drag Opera at The Royal Opera House. Yes, you read that right. Queens with operatic voices performing full drag opera, complete with custom designed costumes – stunning! It was everything my inner-child dreamed of.
My friends, this trip has just proved something I already knew. The future of drag is unbridled imagination and relentless self-expression. In a world full of challenges, it's beautiful and powerful to see a world where drag is no longer just an art form, but a vehicle for personal and societal transformation.
But hold on a moment, this ain't about celebrating drag, it’s about celebrating YOU. The world of drag, the world of 2029 is there for you! Don't just sit there, put on your best glitter and go out there and express yourself. Who cares what you wear, the important thing is you go for it, be bold and be yourself! And for the love of glitter, my dears, embrace that inner queen, don a fabulously pink tutu, and own your fabulousness!
I can't wait for you all to read my next post next month, as I delve back into the time-traveling pink tutu for more magical adventures. Remember, keep your hearts open, and keep the glitter flowing, my darlings!
Keep shining and don't forget to always rock that fabulous pink tutu, darling!
With love,
Emma.
