Hiya lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing, time-traveling drag queen blogger, and this is post number 1346 on www.pink-tutu.com!
Oh darlings, you won't believe where I've been! February 2032! Can you believe it? The future is looking seriously fabulous, and I’m practically dripping in glitter just thinking about it!
This month, my trusty pink time-traveling tutu (which is seriously needing a wash after my last trip - don't worry, I’ve packed enough sparkle and tulle for at least another 100 years) took me on an absolutely spectacular trip to 2032. Now, it's well-known that the year 2032 is shaping up to be the year for fabulousness! Think sustainable fashion, inclusivity on a grand scale, and more glitter than a disco ball that got caught in a storm!
Let’s delve into this magical year!
First stop: New York City - The Drag Scene’s Future is Bright!
Now, darling, New York, that’s always been a drag hot spot! You’d be surprised at the number of times my trusty tutu has whisked me to those iconic Manhattan streets! So naturally, 2032 New York was the perfect place to start my journey.
And the scene? Wowzers! Imagine all the things that have happened since we’ve entered this sparkly, digital world – VR drag shows, interactive digital fashion, and a whole lot of gender-bending fabulousness. But darling, nothing beats the raw, live performances, and boy did I see some amazing shows! The legendary "Drag U" had become a worldwide sensation - an epic drag competition show that's basically a televised boot camp for emerging drag talent. I even managed to score tickets for a final episode. And believe me, the judges, oh my word, these queens were beyond fierce. I’m still living for those lip syncs!
What made this so exciting was how they celebrated inclusivity. A beautiful mix of LGBTQIA+ performers across all generations, ethnicities and backgrounds made this one of the most culturally diverse shows I’ve ever seen.
Speaking of fabulous diversity, I caught the amazing "Queer-B-Que" Drag Brunch at a converted, repurposed art deco venue – you can’t miss that! The food? Divine. The performances? Flawless!
This year's "Drag Fashion Week" is also something that left me utterly breathless. They'd brought back some iconic designers from drag history! There was one look - a pink, tiered tutu that just stole the show. And guess what? It was totally sustainable, using recycled fabrics. It reminded me of those lovely vintage silk fabrics they use to make tutus, and this one had all those elegant layers and ruffles but with a more modern twist. This was a trend that made me oh-so-happy.
London Calling – The Motherland of Drag Gets Glammed Up!
It wouldn't be a trip through time without a visit to good ol’ Blighty! So next, I popped over to London, where drag, darling, has always been fierce. London’s West End is still going strong with iconic drag theater performances and it had even become a cultural melting pot! Drag performers were now at the heart of it all, reimagining the theater and performing classic roles – you name it!
One night, I even caught a show at a renovated Shakespearean theater! They'd cast a transgender performer as Juliet – absolutely captivating! She gave us an interpretation that was nuanced, modern, and emotionally powerful. It was mind blowing and showed the exciting direction drag was going.
While I was in London, I took a spin through Covent Garden and I was wowed by the sheer amount of drag on display! From fashion and art exhibitions at the revamped Royal Opera House, to live performance art pieces in Trafalgar Square.
This trip definitely confirmed that London is indeed one of the capitals of drag!
Across the Globe - A Global Phenomenon!
Now, darlings, I just had to hop around a bit, right? I wanted to get a feel for drag culture on a global scale. So I took a quick flight over to Tokyo! Oh my goodness, Tokyo in 2032? Just utterly mesmerizing! It’s like a dazzling rainbow of creativity, with a very distinct Japanese twist. The scene here is known for its high-concept fashion and theatricality. I’m talking costumes that would blow your mind - feathers, sequins, oversized robots, and oh, so many colours!
They had the biggest, most flamboyant drag balls I’d ever seen! It’s where I fell in love with this dazzling silver futuristic tutu - completely inspired by Japan's love of robots, anime, and modern design! It even lit up in the dark!
I had a blast in Tokyo but my last stop had to be right back here in the heart of Derbyshire, England!
Now, the little gem of Derbyshire isn’t known for its wild nightlife but don't underestimate this gorgeous part of England! Over the years, our county has seen a fantastic growth in drag talent.
Here in Derbyshire, they're embracing a truly unique and charming scene. It’s filled with all the fabulous elements of traditional drag mixed with local influences, including nature and history.
The first ever drag ball held in Derby's historical Quad had just been announced, so naturally, I had to check it out! The ball was bursting with excitement. It was an absolutely brilliant way to bring communities together. This mix of history, fashion, and drag made me think - the future of drag is truly limitless!
And Finally, my little pink advice: Be Your Own Sparkle Queen!
As you know, the essence of drag is all about pushing boundaries, celebrating yourself, and above all, expressing your authentic self through fashion, art, and performance. So whatever your age, size, background, grab a pink tutu, a touch of glitter, and find your voice!
The future of drag? It's so full of surprises and magic. Be bold. Be kind. Be fabulous. And don't forget, darlings, stay tuned next month for another adventure from your Pink Tutu time traveler!
