Hello, my darling darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu clad time-travelling drag queen, back from another dazzling, delightful trip through history! This month, weāre heading into the future, way into the future, to 2033! Buckle your sparkly stilettos, grab your feather boas, and letās sashay!
Now, let me tell you, this trip had me absolutely floored, darling. Stepping into that shimmering pink tutu (I swear it practically teleported me!) and poof I landed right in the midst of a Drag Queen-themed rollercoaster park! You heard right, darlings! Rollercoasters with fabulous drag queen figures and a full-blown "Drag Wars" simulated battle where you had to save the world fromā¦wait for it⦠a villain dressed in a feather boa and too much face glitter. Oh, the drama!
It was absolutely glorious. Imagine a rollercoaster called "RuPaul's Drag Race: The Ride," with themed carriages featuring queens from each season of the show. Talk about a dream come true! I almost cried (okay, maybe I did a little teardrop of joy!) but then I saw the queue to meet and greet the Drag Queen AI animatronics and I knew I had to try it! The queue was, of course, full of beautiful creatures decked out in stunning outfits ā you'd think it was Drag World in there. A glorious explosion of neon colours, glittering sequined skirts, and of course, lots and lots of pink!
This is exactly what I strive for, you see, darlings. Pink is for everyone! So let me just say that seeing hundreds of people happily clad in shades of pinkā¦it was enough to make a drag queenās heart soar. And yes, I mean hundreds, darling. This year 2033 was literally bathed in shades of blush, from pastel pink hair to electric pink boots ā they had everything, even pink glitter body paint! The world is embracing our favourite colour, and my heart simply could not be more overjoyed!
But letās rewind for a moment. Before that rollercoaster spectacle, weāve got to talk about this year's drag scene. Remember 2033 was the year āThe Greatest Drag Queen on Earthā premiered, right? It's this groundbreaking reality show hosted by the amazing DJ Sonique, the legendary Londoner herself! This show really amped up the scene in terms of digital drag and performance. They were incorporating holograms, augmented reality, the lot! There was even an "underwater underwater show" (because you know, why not?) hosted by none other than Miss Fame, doing her thing, looking stunning. You know she looked gorgeous!
Honestly, it's a good thing I didnāt bring my handbag with me. Otherwise, I would have shopped for days in the āDrag Palaceā ā this sprawling shopping mall designed specifically for drag queens. Think of a fabulous mix of department stores and markets, all full of fabulous, sequin-infested costumes and a fabulous rainbow of beauty supplies ā hair-raisingly gorgeous hairspray and everything else you need for a divine performance. Imagine finding those limited edition glitter eyeshadow palettes that come out once a year?! I'd have emptied my entire time-travelling kitty on it!
Now, if thatās not enough for you, get a load of this! The global drag scene was dominated by a new drag-dance movement ā think voguing mixed with traditional Asian ballet. These queens were absolutely spectacular, showcasing strength, agility and artistry with every single pose and pirouette. Iām sure even Miss Cleo would have been bowing down in admiration! The world was captivated, and itās just a little bit easier to be captivated in a pink tutu, right? * Wink wink*!
The sheer volume of creative energy pulsing through this year was simply phenomenal. Imagine it: entire city blocks given over to giant interactive drag performances. It was as if the city itself had embraced its inner drag queen and come alive with flamboyant lights, glitter-covered mannequins, and a soundtrack of pop classics and showtunes all mashed up! I think you can probably tell, darlings, I was completely overwhelmed, in the best possible way.
One thing that truly stunned me was how widespread the awareness was of drag history. I saw these enormous projections in the sky - massive and gorgeous portraits of legends like Divine, Dame Edna, and even the original "Rocky Horror Picture Show" cast! It was such a moving reminder of how far we've come, how powerful drag has become. They even have dedicated āDrag Museumā pop-up exhibits across the world, including one in my home town! Can you believe that?!
The best thing? In 2033 they had what they called "DragQueenEdu"! A worldwide educational initiative aiming to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and showcase the diversity and inclusivity of drag culture to school children around the world. Isn't that a divine dream? We can make a difference through entertainment and showmanship, reminding people of the importance of self-expression, of breaking boundaries, and of finding your own kind of fierce fabulousness. And I bet, thereās nothing quite as fierce as a pink tutu, wouldn't you agree?
And then there was the big one. The most momentous event that took place that year was none other than the "The Queen's Big Tea Party" It was held at Buckingham Palace! And it wasnāt just your regular tea party! Think of every drag queen and trans icon youāve ever dreamt of, from RuPaul himself to the legendary Miss Fame and everything in-between ā it was like a drag royal family reunion! I almost lost my mind. This was drag history in the making. A true testament to how far we've come in embracing diversity and inclusivity, a celebration of creativity and love, and a glorious display of sparkle and fabulousness. I felt a warmth in my heart seeing all these iconic queens, representing their nations in an outpouring of unity and pure love. I can't wait until they hold it again, darling, I will most definitely try to time-travel back then for a good old cuppa!
Itās so important to keep the spark of Drag alive, and it was inspiring to see it all coming together in the year 2033. A bright future with the energy of drag flowing through it. And oh, what a future it will be. If my trip in the pink tutu taught me anything, it's that the world is a rainbow of wonder waiting to be explored. Donāt just take my word for it, darlings ā take my advice! Get into the most fantastic garment out there ā a pink tutu ā and join the glorious global explosion of love and acceptance. That is, if youāre ready for it!
Till next month, my darlings! Stay fabulous, keep shining, and never stop being fabulous in your own pink-tutu kind of way.
Keep twirling!
Emma.
