Pink-Tutu Presents: A Blast to the Past! Blog Post #1379 - 2034-11-01

Hello, darlings! It's your girl, Emma, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu! November's upon us, and the air's got that crisp, autumnal feel to it, don't you think? As you all know, I'm obsessed with time-travel adventures, and this month's jaunt was extra special! I decided to whisk myself back to the year 2034 - remember that wild, wacky year? It was just brimming with glitz, glamour, and of course, drag!

I slipped on my time-traveling, sparkly pink tutu (it's a tad snug around the waist, but you know, sacrifices gotta be made for fashion) and found myself plopped right in the middle of London's legendary "Glitterbomb" festival! You know me, darlings, I can never resist a good festival. Imagine this: a giant, vibrant park packed with performers, drag families, and drag enthusiasts from all corners of the globe, each adorned in their most dazzling looks! It was a rainbow of talent, a whirlwind of music, and pure drag perfection.

This year's Glitterbomb featured the legendary House of Sassafras from Los Angeles - those girls are fierce! You have to check out their Instagram; their fierce style and avant-garde artistry really caught my eye. Of course, the iconic drag mother, Miss Vivacious Vixen was there with her slayage. The crowd went wild for her performance, which included a dazzling outfit made entirely of upcycled vintage Barbie dolls! Vivacious never fails to amaze.

It wouldn't be Glitterbomb without the rising star from the north, that sassy sweetheart, Lady LaMothe! This queen hails from Yorkshire, darlings, so you know she's got wit sharper than a pin! I had a chance to chat with Lady LaMothe backstage, and you know what she said? She said, “Emma, every day’s an opportunity to unleash your inner goddess and make someone’s day!” Now ain’t that the truth? We discussed the latest trends in drag fashion – we were both head-over-heels for those custom-made tulle skirts and holographic eyeshadows, ooh la la!

While the festival was dazzling, it wasn’t the only drag extravaganza happening that week! London’s legendary, The House of Drag, a historical theatre dedicated solely to drag, was throwing their “Glitz & Glamour” fundraiser. It was a gala affair, darlings! Fancy dress, Champagne cocktails, and a spectacular stage show that left me speechless.

One particular highlight was the “Glitz and Glamour" Fashion Extravaganza. Each performer brought their own unique style and interpretations of vintage glamour to life - it was a total feast for the eyes! One queen even wore an elaborate costume crafted entirely of vintage magazines, while another had this mesmerizing feathered ensemble.

But what truly stood out was the debut of "Drag Through The Ages." Imagine a massive show celebrating the evolution of drag history - think Shakespearean tragedy queens, Vaudeville divas, and disco era drag pioneers all sharing a stage. It was a powerful journey of expression and an emotional rollercoaster. I won’t lie, I shed a few tears during their powerful rendition of "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge. It's one of my all-time favorite songs, and it always makes me feel emotional.

Speaking of tear-jerkers, let me tell you about the "Glitz & Glamour" auction - they raised an incredible amount for charity. I actually bid on a stunning pair of feathered wings hand-crafted by Miss Mimi Royale, a renowned drag fashion designer. Sadly, I got outbid by someone wearing an equally amazing feathered headpiece (we just had to give in to the fabulous fashion battle), but the cause was worth it.

Back to my Glitterbomb shenanigans – let me not forget about the drag-themed shopping fair! There were rows upon rows of handcrafted costumes, glittery makeup palettes, sparkly jewellery, and everything drag! I managed to nab a beautiful beaded shawl for my next stage show. It's so soft, and the colour is exquisite! It just screams "vintage glamour".

So there you have it, my darlings, my first trip to Glitterbomb! It truly was a magical experience. Drag shows were absolutely popping, the energy was infectious, and it reinforced my faith that drag is more than just an art form; it's a movement, a community, a way of life! I felt the warmth of acceptance, creativity, and absolute fabulousness all around me!

What are your experiences with Glitterbomb or drag festivals around the world? I'd love to hear your stories in the comments! Until next month, darlings! Stay fabulous!

Xoxo,
