But before we set off on our temporal adventure, let's have a quick peek at what's hot in the world of drag right now. Darling, the world's gone utterly bonkers for ballroom! We're seeing ballroom queens blowing up on the interwebs with their killer voguing and fierce fashion. Plus, there's a new drag queen group called "The Time Travellers" doing amazing, interactive shows where they blend drag and time travel! I'm absolutely buzzing to check them out - maybe they even have some top secret tips for getting around the space-time continuum in my own fabulous tutu.
Now, for our journey through the ages, we're gonna take a dip back to 2023, the year the world was starting to find its groove again after all the chaos. It was such an exciting time to be a drag queen - we saw this absolute explosion of new talent, incredible shows happening across the globe, and drag truly became mainstream, honey!
Our first stop is...New York City! Oh, the fabulous energy, the sheer scale of the talent! In 2023, drag was bigger than ever in the Big Apple. The queens were on fire, strutting their stuff in legendary venues like The Stonewall Inn, (an iconic place for drag history - make sure you give it a virtual visit if you haven't already!), and making a splash on stages all over Manhattan. Remember, darling, drag wasn't just happening on stage - it was a cultural phenomenon, infiltrating everything from fashion to film, influencing countless young souls and spreading joy across the globe!
But darling, don't just think New York! This incredible resurgence of drag was global!
Let's zoom across the pond to my home turf - England! The scene in London was absolutely exploding! We had everything from the iconic Roxy Horror Picture Show still being performed at the The Picturehouse, darling! I just had to watch the shadow cast there when I went on my 2023 trip. And speaking of London, we also saw the launch of fabulous events like Drag Idol! Imagine, the very essence of talent shows, only with fabulous drag queens! So camp! Of course, darling, I had to try my luck and, let's just say it... the experience was simply iconic. wink wink
But drag wasn't just dominating major cities - it was making its presence known all over the world! Imagine, queens rocking drag festivals in Australia, glamorous performances taking over the streets of Madrid, and groundbreaking drag talent taking center stage in South America! Darling, drag was truly a worldwide sensation in 2023! And who knows? Perhaps, one day, you could join the global drag scene too, all you need is a pink tutu and a healthy dose of fabulousness!
Speaking of fabulousness, you wouldn't believe the costumes I saw in 2023! From glamorous couture that looked like they’d just stepped out of a dream to playful, bold styles that celebrated drag’s roots in theatricality and humour. It was a fashion lover’s paradise, my darlings, a true melting pot of creativity! We were seeing queens push the boundaries of self-expression, transforming themselves into works of art. It was absolutely thrilling and so inspiring!
Now darling, let's chat about some of the incredible queens who absolutely rocked 2023! * From queens who were absolute titans in their fields like Miss Fame who slayed in her amazing artistry and striking makeup - that flawless contoured goddess. To drag royalty like Bianca Del Rio and her legendary, sassy wit, reminding everyone that drag can be both fiercely glamorous and absolutely hilarious. And Jinkx Monsoon with her unique, alternative drag that just made you want to party! Oh and darling, remember Shangela?! I just love her attitude. *Every queen I met brought something different and special to the table, reminding me why this form of art is so much more than makeup and a wig - it’s about telling stories, making people laugh, and giving everyone the chance to express themselves without boundaries!
Oh darling, I could go on and on about how amazing 2023 was, but I think it's time to put down my magic pink tutu and travel back to the year 2035.
