Hello darlings! It's your favourite Derbyshire girl Emma, back again for another blast from the past – or rather, another time travel trip, as is the way of things! I just adore getting to shimmy and shake across time with my trusty, magic pink tutu – she takes me wherever I fancy! Honestly, there’s nothing more glamorous than stepping out of a London tube and landing right in front of the Great Wall of China, and it's all thanks to my fabulous pink tutu! But we aren’t going to talk about that today. No, today's trip is all about you! This is blog post number 1382 (catch up if you've been away!) and it's all about Drag in February 2035!
Right, let’s dive into this fabulous journey, shall we? My trusty pink tutu dropped me right at the top of Times Square in New York! Now, anyone who knows me knows I LOVE a good Times Square moment – and this February in 2035? Let’s just say, they REALLY were LIVING!
2035 – What a Drag!
Now, remember those legendary 'drag houses'? Well, they were all about community in the early days, giving a platform for drag, you know, before everyone and their Nan was out wearing rainbow hair and stilettos (not that there's anything wrong with that! But we do have to keep our drag queens' history intact!). But the world had changed. In 2035, those drag houses? They had evolved! Think think tanks! Fashion houses! Philanthropic foundations! The entire spectrum, darling. And let me tell you, seeing all these fabulous folks creating communities of support, innovation and artistry across every corner of the globe? It truly was a sight to behold!
I popped by the House of Zesty Zing, a completely online platform dedicated to supporting transgender performers all around the world. These incredible folks were providing everything from grants to education, mentorship to production budgets. Talk about revolutionary!
Then, there was the House of 'Stardust', dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ rights – and it wasn't just in one city, either! This was a movement, darlings. With drag performances happening in parks, community centers, and even museums – imagine, showcasing queer stories to all walks of life, like in the Metropolitan Museum of Art! It was positively groundbreaking, if you ask me.
Of course, in the real world, you simply cannot separate Drag and fashion! This is my passion! Imagine, giant street performances in every big city on earth, with dancers and performers showing off clothes designed by young, queer creatives from the corners of the globe – and it wasn’t just fashion, honey! Imagine performers showcasing sustainable fashion, showcasing social issues in their drag designs! This wasn't about glitter and feathers; it was about making statements and changing perceptions.
The power of performance in 2035 – wow, you truly could feel the buzz!
A Trip to the Orient… Well, Actually Paris!
Now, I always say a true Drag Queen is never truly complete until she has at least touched down in Paris, so my pink tutu swirled me across the Channel (or more likely through the Chunnel) and deposited me right in front of the Musée d'Orsay, the grand art gallery which has been hosting Drag for years! Imagine, Paris - so stylish, so chic - opening up to drag and using it as a medium to explore the big topics like fashion, history, politics - even food, darlings!
Drag's Reach Is So Global...
But hold on a minute, we weren't done just yet! It seems you can't escape the wonders of Drag no matter what corner of the world you are in! And let's not forget those global events in drag! The first International Drag Queen Summit had been held in 2032 and had gone off with a bang, with representatives from 57 countries! I remember those photos… you just can’t beat a picture of all those drag performers gathered in full-blown drag outfits, from all across the world, exchanging ideas, making connections, and yes, even giving a few workshops - a global showcase of talents!
And guess who the Summit was honoring in 2035?
Me! You could say this was one fabulous, truly surreal moment in history. Being honored for what? You know me - wearing the colour pink! Sharing my pink tutu love! Encouraging every girl and boy, everywhere in the world to slip on a pink tutu! We can’t forget that!
From Global Summits To Pink Tutu Shops!
Okay, darlings, you’ve all got to hear this, so this part needs a bit of a drum roll, a flash of glitter and a high-kick from a feather boa:
THE GLOBAL PINK TUTU CAMPAIGN!
Right there on the corner of every city in the world, nestled next to Starbucks and KFC was PINK TUTU SHOP. Think global! Pink tutu shops were bursting with brightly coloured tutus of every shape and size, you know? From tulle to satin to sequins. We're talking a world-class drag party for your closet.
This is what happens when the world discovers pink tutu fashion, and yes, darlings, I've always said a drag queen in a pink tutu could bring world peace. If I was any good at politics I’d run on a campaign to spread pink tutus globally!
Well, I’ve rambled on long enough, darling.
The world in 2035 was full of magic, beauty, and just a whole lot of amazing drag queens. This world truly lived and breathed drag. And, who knows? Maybe in just a few decades, everyone will be a queen. You've heard it here first!
So until next time, my lovelies! And remember, don’t forget your pink tutus - wear them everywhere! And most importantly: stay fabulous!
