Hiya darlings!
Welcome to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things fabulous, glamorous and historically glittery! This is your gal Emma, and today we're time-travelling all the way to 12th December 2035 - the future, oh honey! I must admit, it's much easier to navigate the temporal flux when you've got a perfectly coordinated pink tutu (the Time-Traveller model - the sparkle is definitely my secret weapon).
But before we dive into the future, let's talk about what's going on here in good ol' Derbyshire. December has arrived, and that means the festive season is in full swing! This week I’ve been rocking out at the B All That Glitters Drag Spectacular at the Chesterfield Assembly Rooms (all pink sequined outfit, naturally) - a fantastic show full of talented queens from across the county, all delivering the good times. Did you see my little dance number? It was all twirls and glitter bombs! You’re welcome.
Right, enough about my fabulous self. Back to our journey!
Tokyo, darling, Tokyo! The city that never sleeps, and for good reason, when it comes to drag, they really know how to throw a party!
Landing in Tokyo on the 12th December, the energy was simply electric. I felt the thrumming pulse of a million sequins and a thousand flashing neon signs as I landed at Haneda Airport - a kaleidoscope of sound, lights, and shimmering fashion that just about sent my head spinning! It truly was a visual extravaganza, so much so I had to grab a pair of oversized, glittery sunglasses from the nearby duty free store (it was an emergency).
And guess what? They all know how to rock the pink tutu in Tokyo, honey! Walking down the streets of Shinjuku, the home of Tokyo’s largest nightlife districts, was a technicolour wonderland of drag styles, street fashion and all kinds of amazing things - even a holographic disco ball bus, which is something I tell you. But what truly stopped me in my tracks? You guessed it: an absolutely enchanting drag queen sporting a blush-pink tutu that shimmered like a thousand shooting stars! It was absolutely divine, and definitely gave my time-travelling tutu a run for its money (but darling, nobody really can match that Time-Traveller model, it's one of a kind).
My trip to Tokyo in 2035 was pure draggy magic. This is a place that embraces its creative heart - from its groundbreaking tech-savvy shows and flamboyant theatre productions, to the ever-evolving scene on the street where drag kings, drag queens, and all things wonderfully gender-bending exist in perfect harmony. The world truly needs more Tokyo - I'm not saying you should book a ticket just yet, as those sparkly costumes definitely don't travel through time well...
But let's talk about this amazing futuristic, gender-bending show I caught. Tokyo Pride!. I saw everything from bioluminescent tutus that reacted to the audience’s cheers to LED makeup designs, it was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Drag queens were utilising holograms in their shows!
This really drove home the incredible progress of drag – the way it seamlessly merged with tech to create truly awe-inspiring performances!
I swear, the crowd was cheering louder than my glitter-spray gun and those sequined tutus - oh my, the outfits...
So, in conclusion? If you are a fan of drag queens who make history, then this is your era. The future is sparkly, bold, and embracing everyone who embraces its unique rhythm, in every imaginable expression. It's truly inspirational!
Oh, one more thing. After the show, I had the pleasure of meeting up with the legendary Pink Neon. They are an absolutely brilliant drag queen and influencer, one of Tokyo's biggest stars and, it must be said, a legend (they just knew all about the pink tutu and our mission!)!
*What a wonderful conversation it was - they've truly made their mark in the world of 2035. I *do love an icon. They shared their amazing journey, the challenges and triumphs - what a joy. I think we need a Pink-Tutu guest post coming soon about that... **
It's so easy to fall in love with Tokyo’s infectious energy - even through a time-travelled pink tutu. They embraced diversity in all forms, and they know exactly what pink means.
If there's one thing that time-travel through all of drag history has taught me, it's this: no matter the era, the love for drag remains constant. But maybe this 2035 world is giving me some extra inspiration about adding a few flashing lights to my pink tutu ... cough
See you next month with more dazzling discoveries from my amazing journey.
Love, Emma
