Post #1393: 2036: A Tutuful Journey Through Time

Hey darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, time-travelling, drag historian! As we all know, a girl's gotta keep her pink tutu moving, and this month, I've landed myself in the year 2036! Just imagine, it's a year before I was even born. 💅

The future is fierce, and this time-travel is all thanks to a magnificent donation I got from the annual "Pink Tutu Ball" in Derby. (You really should check it out next time - so much glam, so much sparkle!).

Landing in a shiny, futuristic, futuristic city in 2036 was such a whirlwind! And believe me, the first thing I did was hit up the best drag shows on the planet, obviously! The fashion here is out of this world! All futuristic, shimmery things with LED lights built in, you wouldn’t believe it! And guess what? Drag kings and queens all across the globe are rocking these super-chic drag looks with so much confidence.

Speaking of drag kings, there's this AMAZING new troupe called "The Future Knights". They all wear this dazzling armour, complete with LEDs, that just sparkles with every move they make! The makeup is insane - they really capture this blend of cyberpunk and traditional drag. They perform on this platform with lights that follow their moves and this digital backdrop that changes with the music! It's simply magnificent! And if that wasn't enough, the queen they call “Cypher" literally teleports during their show. Now, how do you top THAT?! 🤯

And the queens? My oh my, the queens! The current drag queen sensation here in 2036 is a goddess they call “Glittertron”. She has the most stunning cybernetic wings, and she’s obsessed with pink. Just like me! 💖 Imagine, I went to her show dressed in a tutu just like mine, all decked out in rhinestones and the latest glitter. Everyone was like "oh, that's the Tutu Lady!" I mean, when it comes to drag queens, who else wears a tutu? Especially not in a time travelling one. You might have read about her already - but she's all about using technology to empower, to break down barriers. She literally transforms right on stage with the help of AI, and all she has to do is think what she wants. Now that’s powerful!

I was lucky enough to be invited backstage after one of Glittertron's shows. It's something, let me tell you. All the most amazing hair and makeup people using digital 3D printers for their wigs and lashes, plus interactive body suits! The detail on all this fashion is exquisite. You know, we should talk more about how makeup is going digital, but hey, I guess that’s a blog post for another time!

But darling, it wasn't all high tech glamour.

One of the most memorable shows was the performance at the "Global Village". Imagine, you walk in, and they've got dancers, live musicians, artists from EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY, and everyone's showcasing their talents! 🌎 It's a place where culture, community and creativity just bubble over!

The best part is there were drag shows happening across every section! I saw a drag king group, "The Saviors", wearing a fusion of traditional South American attire with space age touches. They even used the music to discuss important issues! Their show touched upon topics like climate change, cultural preservation, and fighting for a more inclusive future! Honestly, it gave me chills.

And it's not just drag. There's this new "Sustainable Runway" show happening all over the globe, and this year’s focus was on using only recycled materials and zero waste clothing! I saw everything from gowns made of old teabags, suits made of denim jeans recycled from years ago, to dresses that looked like they were spun from recycled glass! I even saw this queen, “Recycla”, who wore a GORGEOUS, flowing gown crafted entirely out of recycled plastic bottles, so beautifully stitched and designed that you wouldn't believe it. She won the competition, which just shows you the world is taking sustainability seriously in the future.

This trip wasn't just about drag and fashion, though! The sheer level of inclusivity in the world is mind-blowing! There's a whole "Genderfluid Ball" movement where they celebrate the spectrum of gender expression, which makes it such a magical, inspiring experience! Everyone celebrates individuality. They're really pushing those boundaries of beauty and self-expression and bringing that sense of community and togetherness.

As a big fan of drag shows and costumes, you'd think the main attraction would be the performance. But the best thing about my time in the future is that everyone was so friendly and accepting! People seemed less afraid of their identity, less worried about standing out from the crowd, and ready to celebrate what makes us all unique. And you know what, I love that about this time in history! Maybe I'll come back and stay! 😉

I was also happy to see that the “Pink Tutu Movement” I started is REALLY taking off in 2036! Even here in the future, my pink tutu is catching attention. There was this wonderful young girl, she was so thrilled when I let her wear my pink tutu for a few minutes - it was so touching to see that little girl smile and dance. That's the magic of pink tutus. They make everyone happy! 💖

However, I am writing this in the future. I didn’t take photos. You just gotta trust me, darlings! So, next month, we’ll catch up with how things were when I got home in Derby. I’m not sure it will compare to the wonder of 2036, but maybe you’ll agree it's fun to find the pink tutu history of where we all are. I am starting to look forward to returning to Derby so I can get myself back into my “Pink Tutu” performances and the rest of the vibrant drag scene there! We might not have teleporting queens yet, but hey, you can’t beat the heart of the Drag community there, especially with all those gorgeous, glamorous tutus in the air! 😉

Until then, stay safe, stay fabulous and *don’t forget your pink tutu! *

Love, Emma x
