Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com! Your one stop shop for all things fabulous, fashion forward, and time travel, of course! Iām Emma, your Derbyshire drag queen on a mission to bring the pink tutu to every corner of the worldā¦and beyond!
As always, the calendar flipped over and I was itching for another jaunt through time in my trusty pink tutu! I popped my pink, sequin-embellished time travelling ensemble and set the dial ā 2036! Itās been a while since I dipped my toe into this era, and trust me, my sweet dears, this date is absolutely blooming!
The Pinkest Year in Drag History
I arrived with a poof and a swirl of tulle in a little-known LGBTQ+ haven called āDraglandā in central London! Apparently, they had re-purposed some old Tube lines in a fabulous move to make them rainbow friendly, darling! Imagine: the underground now with dazzling disco lights and enough glitz to rival your average Las Vegas show! I swear, I nearly fell out of my tutu with delight. This time travelling gig never fails to surprise me.
Right then, on to the heart of it, the reason for my visit - Drag! In 2036, drag had fully embraced its pink roots! Now, Iām no stranger to a touch of pink ā I mean, look at my website and wardrobe! ā but this was something else entirely! This wasnāt your everyday fuchsia blush; this was full-blown, flamboyant, fuchsia fantasy, darlings! Everywhere I looked, pink reigned supreme - from the shimmery ombre rainbow flags decorating the streets to the pink feather boas that had seemingly replaced car exhaust fumes! The streets of Dragland were pulsing with vibrant pink lights and pulsating techno music! It was a drag queen's paradise.
This time, I decided to check out some of the biggest names in drag. I popped into a local queer night club called āPink Panther's Paradiseā ā I swear, there were so many pink panthers, they started having an identity crisis. My inner fangirl was already on overdrive!
Meet the "Queen of Pink" - Kiki St. Laurent
This legendary queen, Kiki St. Laurent, is what every pink-loving, tutu-adoring, drag enthusiast dreams of. Her costumes were just mind-blowing - pink everything, darling! Everything! Fluffy, poufy, and absolutely dazzling, they'd give your grandma a run for her money with those layers of pink tulle. It was so chic, darling. Kiki had this stage presence ā a blend of Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, and a sprinkle of fairy dust ā the kind of queen you donāt just watch; you experience.
I had a chance to chat with Kiki after the show ā the biggest, fluffiest hug ever! She even complimented my little pink tutu! I was blushing for days. We talked about the global movement for āpink liberationā ā a real eye opener! Apparently, pink wasnāt just a fashion statement in this time, but a symbol of freedom, a celebration of LGBTQ+ pride. People from all over the world wore pink to showcase their joy and liberation, defying any preconceived notions and challenging the gender binary.
Kiki, the true drag icon she is, has her own āPink Coutureā line ā you wouldn't believe the sheer tulle designs and those custom pink feather boa trims, just pure perfection! Her shows weren't just a drag show, it was an entire performance art exhibition that challenged the world's perceptions about pink, gender, and self-expression. She's so inspiring.
Drag & Dragland
Oh, and I mustnāt forget to tell you about Dragland itself ā a haven for all things sparkly and eccentric. Drag queens performed everywhere, darling, from street corner busking acts to elaborate stage productions. This drag was diverse, from the ācamp-tasticā lip-syncing to powerful, spoken-word poetry performances ā all dressed in stunning pink ensembles, of course.
The sheer amount of creativity that poured from Dragland was simply overwhelming! The shows werenāt confined to stages; Dragland's public spaces were all part of the show. Street artists painted dazzling murals, Drag King performers gave captivating impromptu performances, and a community embraced individuality and self-expression like Iād never seen.
And can we talk about the makeup? Drag makeup had reached a new level of artistry! Not your usual contour and highlight; these artists were weaving magic, playing with vibrant textures and luminous finishes. And oh darling, donāt get me started on the wigs! Each more extravagant than the last. They were all about expressing individual personalities - I saw everything from sleek pink bob wigs to gigantic, pink-feathered headdresses worthy of a celestial goddess.
This time, it wasnāt just the āQueen of Pink,ā it was everyone! Every queen and king was embracing this bright, bold color. Even the straight crowd was dipping their toes into pink, adding a splash of glitter and color to their everyday wardrobes. And that's what Iām talking about! It felt like an explosion of self-love, self-acceptance, and community.
The Tutu of Tomorrow
As always, I returned home to Derbyshire, refreshed, inspired, and even a little bit more in love with pink than ever before. Dragland made a huge impact. The sheer amount of creativity, the love and respect for one another - itās what we strive for, darlings, what makes the drag world special. And yes, I left them a few of my trusty pink tutus ā Iām sharing the love, as you know!
So, I say, throw on your brightest, pinkest outfits, and remember, darling, lifeās too short to be anything but fabulous, especially in pink. We have to get everyone rocking a pink tutu, yes, even the boys! They donāt have to be sparkly and poufy like mine, but even a simple, pink tulle scarf does the trick!
Keep the sparkle alive,
Your girl,
Emma
