Hello darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu wearing time travelling drag queen. It's August, 2040 and this fabulous queen is back with another blast from the past, err I mean, trip to the future. Now, my dear readers, I gotta tell you, things are looking pretty phenomenal for drag in 2040.
This time I sashayed to the year 2040 and my, oh my! What a wonderful, wonderful world of drag! We've gone global, baby, and it's nothing short of sensational! Imagine a world where drag is celebrated everywhere from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the rolling hills of Derbyshire, where my dear, lovely granny still manages to find a reason to put on a feather boa.
First stop was New York City. I'm talking Times Square baby, a stage bigger than life itself! I caught a show with a magnificent cast of drag royalty โ think RuPaul but times ten! The audience was packed, from drag super fans to new-found converts all swaying and dancing along. It was an electric atmosphere, one that gave me serious goosebumps!
Now, let's hop a plane to Tokyo. Here, the drag scene is fierce. I mean, you're talking intricate makeup, bold fashion statements and some of the most inventive choreography I've ever witnessed. The entire experience was like a sensory explosion of glitter, music and pure joy.
And if you think London is known for its vibrant queer nightlife now, just wait until you see 2040! They've taken drag from underground nightclubs to high-profile theatre productions and TV shows! One show even featured a dazzling drag king named Bruno who did a death-defying, tutu-less aerial silk act - mind you, darling, that's no mean feat.
One thing that particularly struck me is the sheer variety of drag being presented across the globe. Drag is no longer confined to one single, homogeneous style. It's evolved into an expression of limitless possibilities, which truly reflects the beauty of individual creativity.
From burlesque performances with glitter bombs to theatrical extravaganzas filled with fantastical costumes, every corner of the globe showcased a unique approach to drag, embracing individuality and pushing creative boundaries. And did I mention the abundance of sequins? Girl, it was a glitter bomb explosion of the best kind!
Of course, a pink tutu is still my preferred garment of choice. I mean, come on, where's the fun without a fabulous pink tutu? But it was amazing to see all the diverse interpretations of drag in 2040. It made me think - are we even limited to wearing tutus?
Speaking of limits, in 2040, drag transcends the traditional limitations of the stage. Drag queens have become prominent influencers, activists, and educators! There was this queen, Penelope, who used drag to advocate for climate change awareness! She was leading protests in drag, urging everyone to be conscious of their environmental impact.
And while drag in 2040 was diverse, the message of inclusivity and acceptance remains the same. You saw this across the globe, from the heart-warming drag story hours in New York libraries to the dazzling queer drag festivals in Sydney. It's a reminder that drag isn't just about glitter and glam, it's a tool for bringing communities together and fostering acceptance.
But it's not just about the shows, my dears. Shopping was phenomenal. From haute couture gowns made with sustainable fabrics, to vintage drag fashion boutiques bursting with vintage lace, to futuristic holographic-print clothing that glowed in the dark (I snagged myself a few of those!). Let's not forget the drag makeup trends! They were wild! I particularly loved the 'eco-glitter' that was actually biodegradable and made from recycled materials.
The whole experience left me positively inspired, full of optimism and hope. I returned from my time-traveling escapade with my heart overflowing with joy and pride for the amazing evolution of drag and the boundless possibilities that lie ahead for all of us.
So, darlings, remember - keep the dream alive, keep shining bright, and don't ever be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and embrace your unique expression. And for goodness sake, never underestimate the power of a pink tutu to transform your life and inspire joy in others.
Catch ya next time, you fabulous creatures!
Love,
Emma
