Hello, darlings! It’s your favourite Derbyshire-born time travelling ballerina, Emma, back with another sparkling edition of my time travelling escapades for Pink Tutu Travels, and guess what?! It's time to whirl, twirl, and time travel once again! Get your diaries out, loves, because this post marks entry #1447 on my blog, www.pink-tutu.com (a definite bookmark-worthy destination if you're wanting to see the world in its most fabulously fabulous fashion!).
Today we're soaring to July 2040! And let me tell you, the year 2040 is all about colour, glitter, and the joyous celebration of drag in its infinite forms. I’m already in my pinkest and most glittering pink tutu, and ready to report back with the latest happenings in this gloriously vibrant world of drag.
As I spun through the time stream, the whimsy and wonders of 2040 filled my eyes like an exploding glitter bomb! Imagine: the bustling streets of Tokyo, ablaze with holographic neon colours as Drag Kings and Queens strut their stuff in mind-blowing, futuristic fashion. I even caught a glimpse of a Drag Monarch wearing a stunning couture dress with wings! Oh, the beauty of it!
What's on in Drag World?
From London to Lagos, and right back to my very own beloved Derbyshire, drag is flourishing! This vibrant month is brimming with all sorts of delights.
Let's kick things off with a celebration!
It's Drag History Month across the globe! Museums and galleries around the world are honouring the remarkable legacies of Drag icons. In the vibrant, artsy city of Berlin, a captivating exhibit showcased the powerful message of drag activism through photography and video installations. They even dedicated an entire section to the historical and evolving legacy of drag music – can you say glam rock revolution?
Let's dance!
In New York City, the world famous "Glitter Ball" held its annual extravaganza, with themes from every corner of the drag galaxy. This is where the biggest, the brightest, and the most dazzling come to shine! There were drag performers from outer space, fabulous femme fatales, and gender-bending giants.
I swear, when the entire ballroom erupted in synchronized choreographed dance routines, you could literally hear a pinch of glitter landing on the ground. Honestly, this city knows how to throw a party!
Get ready for the queens of tomorrow!
And just when I thought things couldn't get more fabulous, I found myself at “Drag Idol,” the most exciting new competition in Dragland!
Imagine a combination of “American Idol,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” and the entire universe's fiercest and most outlandish queens. I even managed to snagged an exclusive interview with the judge! He wore a headpiece that had its own aura and said that he was looking for the queen with the most extra-terrestrial talents! The drama, darling, is unreal!
Not all glamour, all the time.
Back in Derbyshire, the "Drag Support Group" is buzzing. The support for Drag has exploded, even in my hometown! The Group hosts regular workshops to empower new talent. They provide spaces to create and celebrate Drag, alongside mental health support services for Drag performers. It's a wonderful resource to have and truly reflects the importance of inclusion and belonging in this incredible community.
This is my moment.
The most extraordinary thing about time travel is experiencing the incredible evolution of drag itself!
Remember my mission, my lovelies? To get everyone wearing a pink tutu? Well, it's not quite there yet (and believe me, I’ve been busy!). But, there has been an amazing resurgence in ballet and dance-inspired looks – a new era of tutus on the stage! And guess what, even a few street performances are adopting the look! My mission is definitely progressing. I might just achieve that global pink tutu revolution yet!
Don’t forget!
I absolutely loved exploring drag's infinite world this month, darling!
This is only the beginning. And you know what they say about beginnings, darling: they always leave you wanting more.
Don’t forget, this little drag queen's journey is far from over. Remember to join me next month when we’ll be exploring yet another chapter in the fantastic, glamorous world of Drag Queen history! Keep twirling and stay fabulously fabulous.
Yours in glitter and grace, Emma xXx
P.S. If you want to experience the most magnificent, shimmering Drag in all its glory, I highly recommend checking out the Pink Tutu blog and the fabulous “Drag Idol” competition online. Don’t forget, darling, there is something out there for every type of queen. Let your inner pink tutu out, be whoever you want to be, and always remember that life's too short for bland fashion!
