Hello my gorgeous girlies! It's Emma here, your Derbyshire-born drag queen blogger extraordinaire, bringing you another fabulous time travel escapade. As you know, my aim in life is to get everyone rocking a pink tutu. Why? Because they're ridiculously glamorous! 🎀
December 2042. Can you believe it? We're already here in the year 2042. It’s just incredible how time flies when you're busy strutting your stuff in a fabulous pink tutu, let me tell you! Today's journey takes us right into the heart of December 2042 – think snowy landscapes, hot chocolate by the fireplace, and the biggest drag show spectacle the world has ever seen! Buckle up, loves, it's about to get seriously glamorous! 💖
Right, let's get down to it, darlings. This month, my pink tutu and I hopped a few centuries to discover a world that's even more vibrant and full of glitter than our own. Today's adventures, we're in…Tokyo, baby!
The Tokyo drag scene has been booming ever since the first queen on stilts in 1984, and even today they have a style and flair all their own. Let me tell you, the street drag performance we witnessed was utterly jaw-dropping! Imagine a mix of Tokyo fashion with the most extravagant, sparkly, and larger-than-life costumes imaginable – and then multiply that by 1000. They were everything, from supermodel realness to anime inspired looks. It was like the most fabulous anime film you could imagine brought to life in flesh and feathers! 🤯
Their drag wasn't just a stage production; it was an art form. You’d see queens everywhere, owning the streets, dancing in public squares, creating entire performance scenes with makeup and props! It truly was something special and inspired my whole pink-tutu wearing aesthetic.
I even had the pleasure of catching a drag cabaret performance. Imagine this: Imagine your favourite West End production of Cats with even more sparkle, neon-lit backdrops, and all those gorgeous drag queens giving us sass and glam, all in perfect harmony. It was a dream come true for any drag enthusiast. I swear, there were even drag king performances by hunky drag kings who did incredible ballet routines – their drag looked so real, it was terrifying, in the most fabulous way. The audience, it must be said, was wild!
Let's get real, babes: it’s more than just the amazing drag shows, the drag balls, and the dazzling costumes! The heart of drag lies in its sense of community, which was truly palpable in Tokyo. Everywhere we went, we found drag families, supporting and encouraging each other, pushing each other to new creative heights. There was even a group of drag queens selling "Tutu T-Shirts" for a cause, a "Buy-One, Donate-One-Pink-Tutu" type deal. It’s amazing to see how the magic of drag empowers creativity, builds solidarity and brings so many people together. 🥰
I can’t talk about this amazing drag journey without mentioning the fashion! Everything about Tokyo in 2042 was so beautifully, wonderfully exaggerated! The drag queens were sporting incredible cyberpunk styles: holographic make-up, shimmering metallic outfits, and of course, stunning hairstyles. I couldn’t help but fall in love with this truly innovative futuristic fashion – think high-tech fabric, LED displays built into the clothing, and truly groundbreaking hair accessories – my dream world is so close, we almost tasted it. 😋
So, my darlings, if you ever find yourself daydreaming about glitter and wanting to experience some incredible drag shows – consider popping on your own pink tutu and taking a trip to Tokyo! Just be prepared to fall head over heels for the dazzling, dynamic, and always evolving drag scene. It's an adventure you'll never forget!
Now, on that note, my sweet loves, I've gotta rush off and finish writing my drag script. (There's a new local show happening this week at the "Pride" theatre downtown, and I just need to add a bit more glam.) 😉 Remember, to stay up to date on all my fabulous drag-ventures, don’t forget to keep checking back in with my blog www.pink-tutu.com and follow my socials! Lots of love,
Emma xoxo
*Bonus Fashion Advice: Want to embrace the fabulousness of Tokyo's future fashion? Here are a few pointers for a touch of cyberpunk flair in your own style! 😉
Outfit Ideas:
- High-Tech Textures: Think holographic fabric, sequins, iridescent metallics and bold futuristic prints!
- Modern Take on Classic Pink: I don't advocate dropping the pink, my dears! Embrace the most fashionable shade of pink - Hot Pink or Fuchsia pink - pair them with silver and metallic fabrics. Don't forget the extra-extra glittery, shimmery texture and you are going to be ready to strut down the street with all the glam of the Japanese fashion scene. 💖
- Structural Design: Try clothes that play with geometric shapes and edgy lines - maybe try an abstract asymmetrical jumpsuit!
Make-Up Magic:
- Glowy Base: Don’t be afraid to go extra with glowing highlighter.
- Bold and Bright Eyes: The bigger the better. Embrace colorful eyeshadows in electric shades – cobalt blue, electric pink and yellow are some favourites – go for a dramatic graphic cat eye effect!
- Luminous Lips: Embrace high-shine holographic lipsticks or a glossy finish with a punch of color!
