Hey dolls! It's your favourite Derbyshire darling, Emma, back with another sensational blast from the past (or, well, the future technically). π This month, my magical pink tutu has whisked me off to the glittery year of 2044, a whopping 21 years from now!
Hold onto your hair extensions, darlings, because this trip has been a total fashion frenzy. It's almost unreal how much drag has evolved! I'm talking runways, darling, runways of pure extravaganza, with some serious techie elements. Think holograms, bioluminescent make-up, and some serious drone choreography.
Now, before you think I'm going full space-age futuristic, there's still a deep appreciation for those classic drag elements:
The Tutu: I swear, everyone was wearing a tutu! From the glamorous queens performing on the world's largest drag stage (the Metaverse!) to everyday gals strolling down Drag Street (it's a real thing, and it's amazing!).
The Sass: They say the older you get, the more you sass, and oh my God, let me tell you, 2044's drag scene is dripping in sass! Those fierce queens know how to deliver a killer one-liner and shade the competition just right.
The Camp: Now, this is where things get interesting. Camp in 2044 has gone meta. It's not just a style, darling, it's an attitude. The whole "be a little more" thing is really ramped up!
Okay, confession time. As a huge lover of live shows, I initially felt a pang of sadness that my trip didn't involve any proper live theater drag. The global theatre scene has changed quite a bit.
The big draw seems to be a new form of virtual drag performances in what they call the "DragVerse". It's a totally immersive experience, kind of like a video game but way more fabulous! You create your own avatar, choose your drag persona, and get to experience all the magic of a drag show in a completely unique way. Apparently, you can even attend "after-parties" and interact with the queens.
However, don't worry, all those classic live stages are still going strong. There are actually even more dedicated drag theatres around the globe, so there's no shortage of fabulous live shows!
My Must-See Drag Moments! The "Glitter-tastic" Awards Show: My dear, this was sheer, unapologetic camp! Think "RuPaul's Drag Race" meets the Oscars, with even more sparkle. And did I mention that everyone was sporting fabulous pink tutus? Oh, the glorious absurdity!
"Drag Street" Drag Queen Parade: Iβm talking full-on drag-carnival vibes with everything you love β flamboyant costumes, vibrant floats, live performances, and oh so much sass. This street was where all the drag scene cool kids were gathering!
The "DragVerse" Dive: I took the plunge into this digital drag scene. I even tried out some interactive performances! Honestly, the creativity in this virtual realm blew my mind. If you love drag, itβs a must-see, though, you have to know your drag history and love that classic vibe because it really pays homage.
From dazzling performances in virtual worlds to incredible street fashion shows, 2044βs drag scene was a true delight for my eyes and my soul. It proves that drag's ability to push boundaries, embrace inclusivity, and celebrate the art of self-expression will continue to shine even further in the years to come.
Now, darling, remember, don't forget your pink tutu, embrace your inner camp, and let's keep spreading the magic of drag!
XOXO
