#DragQueenHistory during 2045 11

Hello my gorgeous darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-clad time traveller and all things drag enthusiast, with a brand new blog post from the archives of pink-tutu.com. Today’s blog post is #1511! Can you believe it? That's one-thousand, five-hundred and eleven posts detailing our fantastic drag adventures through time! Oh, my word! It’s all gone a bit Willy Wonka and I’m simply over the moon. I think a fabulous glass of champagne is well deserved… with a big juicy slice of cake, of course!

So today, I decided to whizz back to November 2045 and trust me, this journey was utterly spectacular. This journey wasn’t as straight forward as others because we are talking a good fifty years into the future, right?! So let me fill you in, my dear reader, and hopefully inspire you to throw on that fabulous pink tutu and get ready to be dazzled by the magnificent spectacle that is drag.

*A Dreamy Pink Future - Glamorous Times, Glittering Events! *

First up, 2045 is absolutely bonkers for fabulous drag performances. Drag culture in this era is mainstream my dears, utterly normal. The drag scene is more diverse than ever and there is so much diversity it truly makes me go “oh, darling!”, just think about it – the world of drag was all but born out of fabulousness in all its forms and in 2045, the entire world embraces this divine diversity! And, well, thank heavens I say! It really does give my old heart a thrill! You just have to witness it. And speaking of witnesses, the sheer amount of talent was unreal, imagine it… I was in the most magical of Drag Arenas where you’ve got every form of drag performing right there. Drag kings and queens all doing their thing, doing their thang - on the main stage - performing right before me! Now THAT's a spectacular event! There were the more traditional performance styles like musical drag, and that beautiful camp and sassy theatrics of the old-school drag style but also all sorts of fusion genres. I could barely keep up with it! Honestly! And the diversity? My lovelies! I’ve been to New York City drag shows, and London ones and frankly, even THOSE didn’t compare to the diversity of styles here!

Now, this year marks the hundredth year of the Global Drag Festival, you know, the world’s largest gathering of drag talent! This yearly event is held in, you’ve guessed it, my hometown, good old Derby in England. That’s me, your Derbyshire drag queen traveller gallivanting around the world with a pink tutu and a mission! Can you believe it! Now, it wasn't just a festival for shows. It was this truly glorious, worldwide collaboration. It involved workshops, runway events, drag school seminars – even pop-up art installations in honour of some of drag’s greats and most daring acts of the past 100 years! Just fantastic and I feel it's worth highlighting this festival, particularly as its in its centenary year! So I absolutely HAD to visit my own local city - Derbyshire for the festival. But in 2045, Derbyshire was the hot ticket for the best of the best. The real stars of the show. So, I just had to wear a glittering pink tutu with all my friends! Honestly, darling, even the squirrels dressed as drag queens. I am telling you - if squirrels in Derbyshire in 2045 can pull it off… well darling… any one can. You have got this! Just pop on a fabulous pink tutu and enjoy the wonderful world of drag and go wild, you amazing drag stars you! I can just about hear it all now... the screaming, the applause, the fabulous laughter…

* Drag Stars in Time*

Oh, before we forget! Now, a new generation of drag superstars came to prominence this year! There is this super talented drag king in 2045 called Diamond, and his talent for fashion and style are insane! You have GOT to see what they did at the Festival… The man’s stage name is an apt name too… a dazzling array of jewelled attire. Divine! We’ve got the absolutely legendary queen Cinderbella with some seriously stunning drag style and then we've got some really fantastic younger drag performers emerging in 2045. This truly shows the diversity and inclusion of this new generation, right?! There’s just this phenomenal amount of incredible drag, a kind of drag explosion if you will, on stage at every venue across the entire globe!

The festival's opening ceremony, however, was something truly special. They projected historical photographs of legendary drag queens throughout history and included their catchphrases. Honestly, I laughed until I nearly cried! We had Divine, we had RuPaul, Lily Savage and the list just went on… It was fantastic! To celebrate drag history – and the true pioneers of the art form! I literally sobbed with emotion. As they flickered across the projection, there was an atmosphere that was filled with laughter, joy and a whole lot of pride for everything and everyone who has contributed to making this magnificent drag scene of 2045 a reality. I had to wipe a few happy tears from my own glitter and feather lashes…

Fabulous Fashions & Fabulous Times

Speaking of fabulous fashion! Darling… this is the time to go big or go home. You get so much glamour in 2045… oh! You just have to visit all the drag-related museums around the world… I felt like a time traveller in a wonderland! There was drag fashion on display from all periods – you had drag outfits worn by everyone – RuPaul, Divine … even Little Britain (a hilarious little bit of entertainment, but just so dated!) It really shows just how much drag culture has progressed over the years… and truly embraced as art, theatre, style and so much more! But this journey to the future brought me a good old helping of the nostalgic and I even came across a collection of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3’s finest fashions...

I have a picture in my mind right now… the costumes, darling... I’m talking so much glitz, so much glam... so much fun. Oh, the clothes were a vision! But in true drag style, we weren’t allowed to touch a single one... I’ll never be able to tell you enough about my journey into the future - the drag fashion! Honestly, I could go on forever!

The other really cool thing, right, I’ve got a story! And darling, it all revolves around the colour PINK. Think about it, we are the Pink Tutu travellers, right? Well, my trip to 2045 was filled with the most wonderful pinkest items I’ve ever seen... from all sorts of designers who all designed for the Global Drag Festival – I have a picture of a pink tutu I just had to buy - its a limited edition item. Just two hundred in the world, the pinkest, most amazing tutu with glittered butterfly wings - yes! butterfly wings on a tutu, that’s my darling… It's even a rare pink... no, honestly... It's impossible to explain. The only way is to travel in a time machine... I really have to find that drag designer...

Where Next?

This time trip is, honestly, going to be a legend … one that I will remember for all my time travelling years to come… I want you to have an idea of my latest journey – a journey filled with the fabulous pink tutus and glittery goodness of 2045… A drag future in a truly vibrant shade of pink...
