Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels, your monthly dose of glitz, glamour, and a whole lot of pink! It's Emma here, your Derbyshire drag queen extraordinaire, back from another fabulous time travel adventure! Today, we're venturing way into the future, landing ourselves smack-dab in the middle of March 2047!
Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, why so far forward? What's so exciting about a world that doesn't even have working payphones anymore?" Well, my dears, the future is absolutely brimming with amazingness, especially in the world of drag! It seems like drag's gone galactic, and let me tell you, this trip has definitely had me questioning whether it's 2047 or 2147!
Before we dive in, a quick update for you lovely lot - remember that Fabulous Frills benefit performance last week at the "Drag On" theatre in Matlock? Well, let's just say those donations for the local women's shelter were very generous! You guys are just the best, and I'm so thrilled we were able to contribute to such a worthwhile cause.
Now, back to the time travel! For this particular trip, my magical pink tutu whisked me to the bustling, neon-lit metropolis of...well, honestly, it was kind of hard to tell exactly where! There was just this vast, futuristic cityscape, and with all the holographic buildings and flying vehicles, even Google Maps got a little lost! But that just added to the thrill of it all, don't you think?
So, where's a drag queen gotta go first? Right to the hottest drag event in town! The "Universal Drag Gala," a gigantic extravaganza hosted by the Drag Queen Time Traveller Alliance, or DQTTA for short. Now, imagine the wildest drag extravaganza you can conjure up. Now multiply it by ten. Then throw in a few flying robots doing interpretive dance routines. That's what I witnessed. It was glorious!
There were queens from all over the world, and it wasn't just the typical lip-synching and death drops. There were performances incorporating light shows, projections, holographic technology, and even a bit of intergalactic tap dancing (it was as baffling as it sounds!).
Now, you know me - I always keep an eye on the fashion! And let's just say, darling, the drag queens of 2047 know how to rock a look! I was practically blinded by all the sequins, feathers, and LED lights. And even though the future looks quite different from today, one thing was constant – the love and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community shines through.
Now, I'm not going to spoil the entire show, but some standout moments that I just have to tell you about! There was a group of queens who presented a ballet performance using only drone technology - absolutely mesmerizing. Imagine those twirling pink tutus, my dear, but with zero actual ballerinas. Genius! And the closing act was an underwater performance by the legendary Aqua Queen, who did a "Neptune's Wrath" tribute using a whole host of holographic sea creatures and a whole lot of glitter. Let's just say I may or may not have gasped when she did a flip onto a holographic jellyfish. It was pure spectacle!
This journey has reminded me, yet again, that drag is a truly universal language, bridging gaps across time and space. And I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
And don't forget my dears, in this world of glitter and excitement, there’s a certain someone trying to convince everyone to wear a pink tutu, and that someone is me! Maybe, just maybe, one day we'll see pink tutus in outer space, with aliens twirling and prancing along to drag performances by queens who travelled from the past... Who knows! But if it does happen, you can bet I’ll be right there in my time-traveling tutu!
And remember, dear readers, the journey into the world of drag is yours for the taking. Be brave, be fabulous, and never stop believing in the power of a good pink tutu!
Catch you all next month for another pink-tastic adventure! Until then, keep your head held high, your spirits bright, and keep the drag fire burning!
*Lots of love and glitter, *
Emma
