#DragQueenHistory 2047: Time Travelin' Tutu - Post 1528

Hello lovelies! Emma here, back from another trip in my pink tutu, ready to take you all on another sparkly jaunt through time, darlings! This month we’re dippin’ our toes into the future – 2047, to be precise! Now, I know what you’re thinking… tutus in the future? Well, girlies, trust me, with the way trends are going, a tutu is never OUT!

  1. I landed right in the middle of Pride Month in New York City – imagine the glitter, the outfits, the joy! The sheer spectacle of it all was a proper treat.

First up, gotta get that outfit right, right? You’re not time traveling without your power look, hun! So, as you know, I always dress for the occasion. A gorgeous bubblegum pink tulle tutu, custom-made by none other than my darling bestie, Bob, a talented costume designer in Nottingham. You know Bob, queen of the sequined and feather boas, loves to create truly flamboyant outfits.

My top was a statement number, a glittering silver and hot pink halter top, complete with holographic embellishments - and because no time traveler should be without some sparkle, a few strategically placed diamonds that made me sparkle even more than usual!

I just couldn’t resist the vibrant colours and textures of the street, and I wasn’t disappointed.

One thing that totally blew me away was the DragTech. These aren't your mama’s laser shows, babes. The projection mapping and holographic elements were completely insane! It's drag, but elevated!

Imagine drag performances with light shows changing with every movement, holograms that interact with the dancers, and custom virtual backgrounds that transform with the mood of the song - the entire room just became a spectacle! The technical skill, the visual artistry, it was absolutely incredible, and they were all making it work on a mobile platform - that's the kind of tech we need!

Of course, it wouldn't be DragQueenHistory without some history. I popped into this incredible museum - The Drag Time Machine. They had a section called “Drag Revolutionaries” which I found SO fascinating, I spent at least an hour just glued to the wall! It was filled with relics and artefacts from Drag history and even included holographic displays of legendary performances. Seeing Marsha P. Johnson's message in a shimmering hologram was just emotional. Then I wandered through exhibits on The Stonewall Riots, the ballroom scene, and all those fabulous queens of old, showcasing the history of drag as a powerful social movement for change and an artistic expression. It was SO good to see history being preserved in this way. The power of Drag, its impact, and how it truly has been a force for change in the world was so evident. It was really inspiring to see history being respected and appreciated, especially with it being showcased on a more futuristic level.

But it wouldn't be a time travel adventure without a show, right? I made my way to “The Glitterbox," a fabulous drag venue in Greenwich Village, for a show called “Tutus and Tech.” You’d think this was planned just for me. Now, don’t get me wrong, the technology was great, but it was the talent that made it truly shine. They’re all so inspiring!

I fell in love with one act called “Nova,” this queen who brought a neo-punk edge to drag! Think holographic face paint, custom-built robotic props, and dance routines that were super intricate, a mix of robotic movement with ballerina elements - it was like watching an avant-garde drag spectacle, an elegant rebellion of dance. It just proved that drag knows no bounds and there are limitless possibilities when it comes to blending the new with the traditional.

So, that was my time-travelin' adventure in 2047. What did I learn? The future of drag is looking vibrant and dynamic, blending high-tech creativity with classic drag, celebrating its historical importance, and reminding us why drag is so essential and important.

Don't forget, darlings! Always dress to impress, celebrate all forms of drag, and most importantly, wear your pink tutu with confidence and pride. Until next time! Stay glamorous, darlings, and check back next month when I'll be telling you all about my trip to … well, you'll have to wait and see, it's a secret for now!

Love,

Emma xx
