Darling!
Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-wearing time-travelling drag queen. This month's adventure has me positively giddy! We're dipping our toes into the fabulous world of 2048, darlings, and believe me, this year is truly a masterpiece of colour and excitement, not to mention the abundance of tutus, and I don't just mean in the drag world!
Iâm coming to you from the Derbyshire countryside today, babes, fresh off a successful drag gig at the local village hall, and lemme tell you, my pink tutu was absolutely serving. My tutu, by the way, was a vintage, hand-stitched beauty I found in the time machine's fabulous 21st century cupboard (where else would I find it?) - and it's this fabulous frock that's taking me on my fabulous journey through the dazzling annals of history.
And this time, itâs even more fabulous, as weâre taking a peek into the future! This month, the time machine whirred and twirled us all the way to 2048 - and lemme tell you, this year's shaping up to be one big, glam party. We've got dazzling performances, incredible fashion (including tutus! Naturally!), and the whole world embracing the joy and celebration that drag has become known for! Itâs truly a testament to the hard work and dedication of drag queens around the world - drag truly is a universal language of joy, celebration, and, of course, glitter.
Before we get lost in the swirling glitter of the 2048 drag scene, let's pause a moment to acknowledge a truly stunning feat! This year marks the global adoption of the Pink Tutu Day! Yes, darlings, an entire day dedicated to celebrating pink tutus! Just imagine it â a global movement of twirling, shimmering, and joyous pinkness. This initiative was actually launched by a talented drag queen inâŠhold onto your boas, darlings, the Netherlands! And the truly remarkable thing about this campaign is that the Netherlands didnât stop at a day! They've made every Friday "Pink Tutu Friday" in their country, urging people to don their most fabulous pink tutus and strut their stuff! Just think, darling! The whole world, covered in a cloud of beautiful pink fluff! Imagine, the photos alone⊠divine!
Moving back to 2048, a lot of you may be curious about the current state of the drag scene in the 21st century, so let's talk about what makes this particular year so incredible.
Firstly, darling, drag is now a mainstream global phenomenon. It's not just in those iconic New York City and London theatres, it's in the most vibrant, remote corners of the world! It's even an Olympic sport (you heard that right, darlings! Figure Skating!) â you've got all those glorious Olympic athletes gliding and spinning in beautiful, sequined tutus, adding a healthy dose of drag magic to those competitions. Just divine, truly divine!
This massive acceptance has come about due to an unwavering fight against prejudice, which all started in the past. But the future's truly golden and glittering, filled with incredible opportunities for new drag queens! In the UK, The BBC has dedicated an entire television channel called âDragulaâ, showcasing drag talents around the world. Talk about a positive step towards further embracing the creativity and artistry of drag! Youâve got everyone from seasoned queens with decades of experience, all the way down to fresh-faced youngsters taking on the stage â with the BBC putting them on the global map. You know it's true, darling! The world is absolutely enthralled by the infectious energy of drag, and rightfully so, it's magical.
Letâs talk about performances, darlings!
The 2048 drag world is an incredible mash-up of classic styles and bold new creations. This year's got us some seriously high-powered performances taking place! There's been a whole slew of new drag balls cropping up worldwide, everything from âBowie's Birthday Ballâ (held every year in tribute to the one and only, David Bowie!) to "Tutus in the Park" in London.
Now, you canât talk about the 2048 drag scene without mentioning "The Pink Tutu Awardsâ. Itâs the Oscars, the Baftas, the Grammy's all wrapped into one glorious package of sparkling fabulousness! A whole gala dedicated to drag! This yearâs event was hosted by the drag legend Miss Fanny "Fluffball" Fox in that incredible gothic cathedral in Prague. A simply breathtaking spectacle of beautiful performances, iconic gowns and, of course, plenty of pink tutus.
This year saw "The Drag Street Fashion Show", an absolutely sensational event with incredible costumes - a masterpiece of fashion and beauty. Held annually in Paris, darling, The Drag Street Fashion Show, takes drag out of the clubs and onto the catwalk! You've got top-notch designers crafting outrageous designs that are breathtakingly unique and totally stunning. These shows are held in the heart of the Champs-ĂlysĂ©es, Paris' iconic boulevard, where street fashion meets dazzling drag couture! I must admit, I even made an appearance with a custom-made sequined and glitter-encrusted pink tutu I managed to squeeze into my bag during my little trip through time. It was an absolute hit, darling! All those photographers clamoring for a picture! I couldn't ask for anything more fabulous!
The best thing about all this, darling? These are just the highlights. Every corner of the globe has something incredibly fabulous happening. You can hop on the global network for âDragula Liveâ, and see some fantastic queens performing on stages around the world! There are incredible shows on stages from bustling Tokyo to Rio De Janeiro - It's an all-encompassing world of performances that will just melt your heart with creativity and passion.
