Post #1545: Twirling Through Time - September 2048!

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back with another dazzling dose of Drag Queen History! Today we’re waltzing our way back to September 2048. It’s a year that has some major sparkle and we’re going to be spilling all the tea, or should I say, pink champagne!

Let’s get right to it, darlings! The time travel tutu is shimmering with anticipation because, in September 2048, we’ve got a phenomenal line-up of drag history unfolding. I just know you’ll be shook by this month’s tea spill, because it’s one of the biggest months for drag that the timeline has ever seen. Buckle up your feather boas and get ready for a truly camp ride!

A Worldwide Drag Explosion!

Let’s start with the biggest story of the month - The Global Drag Ball! This epic event spanned five continents, kicking off in the neon-lit streets of Tokyo and ending with a grand finale in a breathtaking, all-pink, specially constructed ballroom in Las Vegas. Over a hundred thousand drag queens and kings gathered to compete for the title of World Drag Champion.

Can you imagine it? The entire globe was shimmering with the beauty, creativity and sheer outrageousness of this global event! You'd be forgiven for thinking the whole world had just been given a generous sprinkle of fairy dust and glamour, my dears!

From breathtaking ballroom performances to breathtaking runway displays, this month was the peak of fabulousness! We’re talking avant-garde drag looks that were out-of-this-world, with costumes that had literally fallen from the sky – well, from the heavens, as one drag queen joked! This grand event made world history!

The UK Goes Pink!

You might know I’m from good old Derbyshire, and you won't be surprised to hear the UK is definitely a leading force in drag history. In September 2048, we were blessed to have an unforgettable extravaganza. The London Drag Fest kicked off at The Barbican Theatre - yes, darlings, that's the grand old Barbican, no less!

Think dazzling performance art combined with the most innovative, glamorous street drag shows, with performances taking place right in the heart of London's famous streets. It was sheer joy for our eyes, and a reminder of the sheer transformative power of drag. Oh, and I cannot tell you about the number of incredible performances that saw legendary drag queens performing in some of the most innovative, exciting and breathtaking productions the country had ever seen!

One of the highlights was seeing the legendary Divine, (yes, that Divine!), gracing the stage, the absolute goddess of drag, giving a dazzling, camp performance of "Come Alive", alongside her fabulous backup dancers! Honestly, you have to be kidding me! I could hear the cheers right from here, even with my trusty time travelling tutu!

Time to Shop, Darling!

Now, after all that drag action, a girl’s got to shop! I don't think there was a fashion designer or independent shop owner in all of England who wasn’t completely overwhelmed by the wave of drag queens heading for a fabulous fashion frenzy in London and across the country.

It seemed every high street had been given an extravagant, flamboyant makeover with shops decked out in glitter, feather boas and everything pink, just like the good Lord intended, I always say. Every boutique had its own collection inspired by drag. Imagine what a feast that must have been, for your eyes and for your wallet!

Time to Look Back, Darlings!

But it wasn’t just about new trends. The vintage shops, the antique stores and those oh-so-special, eclectic shops all across the UK, all saw an increase in demand for beautiful, antique, original drag costumes! It’s one of the best things about my time travel; being able to look back and see the true impact of fashion and dress and how it transcends time and evolves through eras!

September 2048 was a pivotal moment. Not only was the global stage sizzling with drag talent, but there was a clear resurgence of appreciation for the fashion legacy of drag, for those fabulous pioneers who took risks and fought for their rights to be themselves, even if it meant pushing boundaries.

It is in their spirit that we travel through time to get all of you dressed up in pink tutus! And I promise, if we all have the courage to embrace who we are and stand proud, to truly sparkle like the stars, our future will shine brighter than ever.

So, don't be afraid, lovelies! Jump into that time travelling pink tutu! Get on stage and let the world see your magic. Embrace that fierce confidence, express yourself without fear and take your rightful place as a star. It's time to step out, spread the love and make the world a more colourful, joyful and, yes, pinker place!

That's all for now darlings! Until next month, keep it sassy and be a force to be reckoned with! And please, let me know on the Pink Tutu forum if you fancy grabbing a glass of champagne with me and discussing all things drag, the future of drag, and our lovely pink tutus.

Remember, darling: a drag queen in a pink tutu never stops inspiring! And it’s never too late to live your truest, most fabulous life. Until next time, stay pink!

Love, Emma xoxoxo
