Pink Tutu Travels: 2049-05-00

Hello my darlings!

It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-clad guide to the dazzling world of Drag Queen History. I hope this post finds you fabulously fabulous and rocking a little pink (just a little wink for those of you wearing the good ol’ black… or red. You know you want a splash of pink!)

It's time to slip into our trusty time-traveling pink tutu – this time, we’re jetting forward to the year 2049. You heard me right, 2049! Can you even fathom the drag queens strutting their stuff, and the runway looks, in nearly a third of a century? It's hard to even comprehend. And guess what? It's more fabulous than I could have imagined!

The World's Biggest Drag Brunch - London

This month, my time travels have taken me to a delightful little cafe nestled in the heart of Soho in London. Imagine, a little spot called “The Pink Flamingo” – quite the homage to our love of pink! They hold the world’s biggest drag brunch, you see. You walk in, and it's a sensory overload of fabulous: sequins glittering, glitter bombing the air, pink cocktails served in flamingo-shaped goblets, and divine drag queens performing their hearts out. They even have an entire "Pink Tutu Special", where every table gets a free pair of pink fluffy bunny ears to match our signature attire – of course, I had a full set!

Drag Royalty at The Unicorn Palace - New York

From the bright lights of London to the electrifying atmosphere of New York City, I sashayed right into the iconic Unicorn Palace. You know, the legendary drag nightclub in New York? Imagine the magic: a stage overflowing with sparkle and glam, lights that change faster than a fashion mood board, and the most iconic queens of the 21st century (and some from the future, we’re talking drag royalty, my darlings!). The energy was palpable – I was simply swooning – it's the drag capital of the world! They were showing “The Queen's Gambit: Drag Edition”, which has a troupe of glamorous chess players that I swear, they were better than actual grandmasters. Not to mention, the chessboards themselves were made out of diamonds! Just... wow.

Drag Extravaganza at The Palais des Arts - Paris

On to the City of Lights – Paris – I had to go to The Palais des Arts to witness the Paris Drag Runway Extravaganza. Imagine: high-fashion couture on the catwalk – it’s an elegant explosion of feathers, sequins, and even a couple of those dazzling futuristic robotic couture pieces that they're famous for over here. But, you know me, the heart of a drag queen wants the show. And they did not disappoint. One drag queen I met, the one and only Miss Divine - I am not making this up - made an entire ensemble from repurposed satellite dishes and even used actual working rockets as headdress!

Digital Drag Extravaganza: The World's First Drag Metaverse

As you know, technology is my muse. And what better than taking our beloved drag scene into the digital world! They have this thing called “DragVerse”, and it's basically a world where you can customize your avatar, strut down virtual runways, even put on your own show, but get this - all you have to do is step into a giant pink sensory chamber and suddenly your mind is blown with dazzling holographic magic! I took a dive in and it's basically a 3D version of every show I've ever wanted to be in, but on steroids. I’m talking: the entire history of drag, in your hand (or rather, your avatar’s hand)

Drag on the Rails - Europe’s Largest Drag Train Tour

Now, you all know my love for all things pink and travel. But imagine taking it all to a new level - a whole train devoted to drag queens! They called it “The Glitter Express” – travelling from Helsinki all the way to Madrid! This tour included: drag queens doing performances on the train, full drag fashion shows in every station they stop at, workshops in everything drag, and pink and blue-striped themed carriages just for us, my dears! Talk about travelling in style! I managed to grab a seat at Drag Queen Bingo night - I did alright, actually - won myself a beautiful sequined purse (naturally, in pink)! I felt like I was in the 1950s Hollywood glamour-type films with this train tour, minus the stuffy upper-class types, because there’s nothing stuffy about this world. It was more like a technicolour carnival in an elegant train. It really was magic, darling!

The Future of Drag: More Pink, More Sequins, More of EVERYTHING!

Okay, let's rewind for a second and take a deep breath because this post has gone extra fabulous – just like the world of drag itself. The drag scene of 2049 is even more spectacular, even more empowering, and more inclusive than ever. There’s still this focus on performance, the fabulousness, the outrageous costumes, and of course, the pink-tutu loving Emma. We have Drag Fashion and even drag spacecraft in some parts of the world - yes, they actually have drag space launches and people in drag in space. It’s a lot! It is!

But here’s the beauty, it's not about one colour, it’s not about one style. Drag in 2049 is an explosion of self-expression and celebration - a big, fabulous, glittery rainbow. The main message I'm picking up: We’re more inclusive, more vibrant, more glamorous, and more connected than ever. That’s what I want to be about - about the love and appreciation for drag history, drag culture and the people making it amazing.

Time Travel Tips

Speaking of space travel - for all my lovely readers - a few tips on making the most of your own pink-tutu time travel adventures (yes, anyone can have it, you just need that extra pinch of glitter, darlings).

  • Pack a pink tutu: I know this one's obvious but you'd be surprised at how often I have to remind people! You never know when you might meet a fellow time-travelling drag queen – we’re always on the lookout for our own! And that means, gotta have the ultimate outfit: the pink tutu. It's mandatory for any self-respecting drag queen time-traveller, even in the year 2049. It’s an automatic invite to the “Tutu club” you see.
  • Bring extra glitter: You can never have enough glitter.
  • Study up: If you're thinking about time travelling to 2049 (or really any point in the past), learn some history and current events!
  • Stay in touch with your inner fabulous self: This should go without saying, my darlings, but it is crucial to staying in touch with your inner glamorous self.
  • And have fun, dear. That’s what matters!

Love, Emma xx
