Hello darlings, Emma here, your favourite Derbyshire lass with a passion for pink, a flair for fashion, and a love affair with time travel! Buckle your glitter boots, because today we’re journeying to… well, today! We're looking at what the world of drag is doing on 2050.09.01, and honey, it’s iconic.
First things first, my lovelies, I’ve got to confess something: I'm obsessed with tutus! I think there’s something utterly captivating about them. It's a touch of fairy tale glamour that transports you to a world where anything is possible, a world of swirling colours and sparkly dreams. You can practically hear the music when you twirl in a tutu, don't you?
Which brings me to my travel time today - September 1st, 2050! Oh honey, the drag scene has just exploded! It’s a beautiful mess, and I’m right here in the middle of it, living my best life in a glorious pink tutu, of course! The fabulousness is out of this world!
I travelled back in time to find myself in a world of swirling technological advancements and dazzling digital art. It feels like the future but somehow with a bit of a vintage edge, just how we like it! This journey involved, you guessed it, a stunning pink tutu. It had layers and layers of tulle, and the shimmer! My goodness, you wouldn't believe the iridescent sparkle. I swear, it illuminated the whole city!
Right, enough about my outfits (though you know I can't help but boast!) This era is all about diversity and inclusion. Drag has reached new heights. We have the incredible drag race shows, Drag Queen Idol, House of Dreams and, wait for it... a Global Drag Tour. I’ve never been so excited for a Drag tour in my life! Every drag queen who is anyone is going to be on this global spectacle. Think 'RuPaul’s Drag Race' but on a world-wide scale. Imagine seeing those fierce drag looks travelling across the planet, shaking up the drag scene in every city! Shivers The sheer scale of it is just mind-blowing!
But it’s not all about glitzy international tours, even our local drag scene is booming! I popped into a fabulous, intimate cabaret in the East End. This cabaret is housed in a former textile factory - totally vintage chic, and perfect for a good dose of drag. It's called the ‘Rainbow Threads’ and boy, they know how to weave a show. They're bringing the classic charm of old school drag with a modern edge - I saw some truly fantastic looks, from futuristic queens in silver chain mail to a fierce clown that had the audience roaring with laughter.
Let’s talk fashion, my dear. This world is crazy fabulous! Technology has merged with drag. Digital couture is in. Think clothes that are digitally designed and tailored to the individual. That’s right! My time travel pink tutu has some amazing digital patterns that are just as fabulous as real tulle and feathers. What I'm really into is the mix of virtual and real world trends. You’ll see fabulous drag queens using augmented reality to add even more pizazz to their looks – the creativity is insane!
And did I mention makeup? We’ve moved past liquid lipsticks (remember them, darling?), it’s all about bioluminescent cosmetics! These magical face paints illuminate, glow in the dark and shimmer – the effect is unbelievable! I’m trying to snag some of those products for my drag performances. You can see a touch of bioluminescent green shimmering on the back of my hands in the pictures.
Shopping in this era is like stepping into another world. Oh my, there's just so much to see! I just had to have the limited-edition line of lipstick-stained tutus by Vivienne Westwood. Her latest designs are incredible - She’s incorporated real feathers and Swarovski crystals in a sustainable way - genius! They have shops here dedicated entirely to drag – dreamy!
Speaking of shops, one of my favourite things to do after a good drag show is shopping and window shopping. That brings us to a must-visit shop I discovered! ‘The Glam Gallery’ it's dedicated to showcasing drag looks from different decades. This isn't your average museum, darling. It's interactive, you can put on vintage drag looks from different eras.
I decided to take advantage of this opportunity to see if the pink tutu craze of 2050 actually existed. And, drumroll, it did! There's a whole exhibit dedicated to pink tutus - can you believe it?! From Victorian era silk ones to futuristic laser pink creations, it was just dreamy! Oh darling, if that doesn't solidify your inner confidence and inner fabulousness I don't know what will!
And you know, while we are talking fashion and time travelling - let’s talk about travel, dear! The world of drag is not just booming in major cities, but in smaller villages and even in outer space (yes, I’m not kidding!). They have dedicated spaceships for drag shows on the International Space Station! Now that's next-level fabulousness!
The best part? This era is super inclusive. All the drag shows are completely accessible, not just to those with access to wealth but to the entire community. This was so heartwarming, as a child in 1997 I would have only dreamed about a space station with an exciting drag show happening, I’m really touched! It shows how far we’ve come as a community. There's no holding back, every individual can find their place on the drag scene!
This world is a fantastic combination of high-tech, high-fashion, and heart-felt humanity - that’s drag in a nutshell for you! And it’s a great reminder: It's not just about clothes and make-up, my lovelies, it's about expressing yourself with confidence and joy!
So, go out there, be you, be fabulous and… if you have it, wear a pink tutu! Until next time, my darling loves.
