Post #1568: A Tutu-tiful Trip Through Time to 2050: Drag Royalty, Techno Queens, and Glittery Galactic Getaways!

Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing, time-travelling drag historian, coming at you live from, well, the future, technically! Buckle your sequins, babes, because this month, we're heading way into the future to August 2050. Let me tell you, the future's looking fabulous, and it's bursting with shimmering sequins, glittery eyeshadow, and more pink tutus than you can shake a feather boa at!

As always, before we dive into the glamorous details, let's do a quick shimmy into how I got here. It wouldn't be a www.pink-tutu.com post without a good old fashion Time Travel Tutu tale!

This month, the pink tutu spun me right into a shimmering vortex of futuristic fabrics, metallic textures, and, you guessed it, more pink tutus than ever! Turns out, time travel works in the most fabulous of ways. Think shimmering cosmic swirls, holographic glitter, and the faint aroma of cherry blossom incense - not exactly what your grandma's time travel might have involved, darling!

Anyways, this time, I popped out right smack dab in the heart of London, 2050 - a bustling metropolis decked out in rainbow-hued chrome and neon. Now, while the architecture was super space-age, the spirit of drag was exactly as fierce and fabulous as ever!

Firstly, I gotta tell you about the Drag Royalty that's still ruling the world in 2050. You might know Venus Divine? The original, iconic Queen of Drag. In 2050, she's a seasoned drag legend, still on top of her game with a glittery spaceship themed performance, that had the audience in awe, but we can chat about that in another post, because she deserves her own whole blog post!

In this part of the blog, I'll be focussing on a new scene called "Dragtronic," where you have DJs and musicians incorporating drag, in a vibrant and exciting new fashion and sound experience.

Remember, I told you that 2050 has this cosmic chic aesthetic? Well, that theme extends to drag too, and darling, let me tell you, it’s utterly sensational! Imagine laser beams, iridescent lights, and holographic screens, all intertwined with killer beats and mind-blowing visual effects. It was just jaw-dropping, in the most fabulous sense, naturally. The costumes, the makeup, and the performances themselves were literally out of this world!

But here’s the best part - it's not just about the showmanship. Dragtronic is all about blurring those lines between drag and techno, celebrating all aspects of artistry in its entirety. And you know what? It’s incredibly exciting. It’s like watching the evolution of drag happen before my very own, sparkly eyes! It really puts drag in this super cool, future-forward space, embracing inclusivity and creativity in its purest forms.

Now, I might be a huge fan of the futuristic, futuristic Dragtronic scene, but don't for a moment think that the "classic" Drag Scene has lost any of its glamour in 2050!

It’s a beautiful blend of everything that’s loved about drag; theatrical flair, larger-than-life personas, a little cheeky humour, and a lot of lip-syncing fun. One of my highlights was a glamorous drag cabaret show at a revamped London Palladium.

From what I can tell, the Palladium is like an even more opulent, sparkly, and awe-inspiring version of its 20th-century counterpart, and just think about all the queens who have been through those iconic doors throughout the centuries. Honestly, this legendary venue will forever be my absolute favourite place for a theatrical Drag Show.

Now, remember that all those shows, my drag performances, and, well, these fabulous time-travelling tutus need to be paid for somehow, so let’s talk about funding my time travelling life, with another very exciting form of entertainment - Drag Karaoke.

As a self-proclaimed drag queen, and time travel blogger extraordinaire, one of my most important passions is, of course, making sure everyone looks as fabulously as possible, in particular my pink tutu obsession. You can find a vast amount of colourful pink tutus online - even the internet in the future is surprisingly helpful for a girl on a budget!

Now, even a pink tutu enthusiast like myself has to fund her love for pink tutus. And my trusty time travel tutu (my baby!) doesn't run on wishes, darling, it needs real money! To fuel my tutu adventures, and fuel all of those delicious, delicious pink tulle dresses, I rely on a mixture of Drag Shows in all sorts of weird and wonderful locations, in the past, present, and, oh yes, the future! I mean, the future's pretty rad and I'm glad we got to see some drag scene highlights but I have to say that for sheer nostalgic value there’s nothing better than a drag performance in Derby, England. It’s where my love affair with drag first started, after all!

Anyway, while the future’s looking fantastic for the world of Drag - especially if you’re a techno-queen – you’ll always find a loyal audience, ready to sing their hearts out to some classic diva anthems at your local, drag karaoke bar, which in my world will always be a drag karaoke club somewhere in Derby, England, my hometown.

I could wax lyrical for days on end about how fabulous and sparkly the future of drag is - all of the latest looks are just divine! - but this blog is already longer than my most outrageous boa feather! However, I am very grateful you took the time to read this blog and join me on my latest pink tutu journey. Do pop by again next month for a fabulous fashion tour of drag queens, as we explore the wonderful world of fashion trends and designers through the ages! You never know where this magical pink tutu might take us next! And don't forget, wear pink tutus, wear glitter and embrace every fabulous thing you are. Love, light, and shimmering sequins, always!
