Hello my gorgeous glitterati! Emma here, back from another dazzling trip through time. This month I found myself pirouetting through the fabulous streets of…wait for it…2051! The future, darling! I just adore a bit of futuristic fantasy!
And let me tell you, this era is positively shocking in the best possible way. Honestly, darling, it's all about futurism! Neon everything, holographic fabrics, chrome makeup and a sprinkle of digital glitz.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Emma, how on earth did you navigate the 21st Century in a pink tutu?!” Well, dear, that’s where the magic of this time-travelling tutu kicks in! It's more than just a bit of fancy fabric, darling, it's a portal to any era, a key to any dimension! Plus, in the future, pink is huge, everyone loves a little splash of fabulous pink in their lives, you see.
So, naturally, I touched down in the year 2051 in style. I strutted into the fabulousest drag ball you can imagine. And this wasn't some dingy dive bar either! This ball was held in a glitzy, futuristic club, with holographic lasers swirling across the dance floor, neon cocktails sparkling in their frosted glasses, and every shade of pink you can imagine. The performers? Absolutely out of this world. The makeup, darling, it was like seeing your reflection in a disco ball - just a whole lot more stunning! There were queens rocking chrome lips and holographic gowns, ones who looked like they stepped straight out of a futuristic video game, and even one with wings made of bioluminescent algae (she gave a stunning rendition of "Hallelujah", by the way). Honestly, darling, this ball was a spectacle! And they loved my pink tutu, you just know it.
Now, 2051 isn’t all glitter and glam. There were some real social commentary performances that touched my heart. One queen I saw performed a satirical cabaret number about AI and its impact on creativity - oh the drag puns! Hilarious, but so insightful. I'm convinced everyone had a good giggle about that one. Another queen, who had a truly unique take on "genderless", was commenting on gender fluidity, something the kids of 2051 still find quite fascinating! It made me think. So very thought-provoking!
While I was in the future, I popped in for a chat with the most wonderful drag historian, a queen known only as "Time Machine Trixie." She gave me the lowdown on drag history in the year 2051, which is even more fascinating than our little journey!
Drag in 2051 - A New Era
You know how the '70s was all about the disco and the '80s all about synth pop? Well, drag in 2051 is just as iconic! Drag is an art form, an act of empowerment, a revolution, a stage for expression, but the world had moved on - just as it had in the 60s and the 80s. Drag is so much bigger than just lipstick and lashes - it's an identity, darling, a true expression of oneself. Drag queens aren't limited by traditional boundaries of beauty anymore, they’ve pushed the boundaries even further with holographic makeup, augmented reality, bioluminescent attire and other mind-blowing techniques.
Think drag runway meets science fiction, but with a dash of social commentary! You can imagine the shows. Imagine queens showcasing their latest outfits - a hologram dress which, you'll never believe this, could change colour in an instant or imagine a dress that looked like it was straight from Star Trek - oh darling, those were some incredible runway moments! I even caught a show with a performance art piece - drag had truly become performance art!
One queen, who calls herself "Chromatic Siren", even explained to me how they created their latest "liquid-illusion" act! The futuristic technology is really mind-boggling, dear! She used these glowing light tubes that changed colors to match her costumes, which were, naturally, neon pink and all holographic designs. Then they would have these holographic projections behind her on the stage which synced to the colour of her costume. Oh darling, the crowd was screaming, screaming!
You see, 2051 has been a whole new frontier for drag queens - it’s an era where technology and imagination truly blend! Imagine all the beauty tools. They have this amazing invention that can give you the most dramatic, dramatic drag lashes you could imagine, like a full-fledged feathery peacock tail. It's also used for all kinds of other amazing futuristic styles too, mind you.
Drag in the future is a vibrant mix of futuristic design, performance art, and digital entertainment. This new breed of queens is bold, tech-savvy, and unapologetically themselves, embracing a fusion of fashion, science, and societal commentary that leaves you wanting more, oh, darling, you know I had to buy a few outfits to take back to Derbyshire with me, and not forgetting some futuristic eye shadow! The shopping was glorious - everything looked amazing on me.
Time Travel Tips
Remember darling, time travel with a pink tutu requires the right amount of sass! When venturing to 2051, you can embrace the glitz and glamour but you need to understand that while I saw people being comfortable in their own skin, in this age they had already done a lot of work in accepting difference, but there is still room to improve on things. So you've gotta remember to spread some pink love and sparkle!
And of course, remember to document everything, darling. It's the key to inspiring the world, to inspiring the children to make the world a more accepting, tolerant, wonderful place, and not just be filled with neon colors!
So there you have it! My adventures in 2051. Another fantastic trip, with loads of lessons learned and even more fabulous inspiration! You can see that drag history, from the old world right to the future is just getting started. I have a feeling that in the years to come we'll be seeing drag stars do more than just perform, but use their voices and platforms to raise awareness of the problems in the world, such as how to live better as a collective. The future of drag looks incredible!
Until next time, darlings, keep shining your brightest, wear your pink tutus with pride and make the world a brighter, more fabulous place, one glitter bomb at a time!
Lots of Love and Glitter,
Emma xx
