Hiya darlings, Emma here, your time-travelling tutu-clad correspondent, back with another post for your perusal on the ever-fabulous www.pink-tutu.com! As we all know, life is just a drag, so let's grab a sparkly cocktail and get on with it, shall we?
Today, we're hurtling through the timeline to the 1st of March 2052, my darlings, the year the Queen (Queen Elizabeth II, naturally!) is looking truly regal in her diamond-studded zimmer frame. Ooh, she’s had a pink one painted for the occasion. Just love it!
As a drag queen, I truly believe the history of our fabulous art is a continuous, fluid story that winds its way through every age, with every single generation adding its own fabulous flourish to the tapestry of drag.
My journey into the dazzling world of 2052 is, as always, thanks to the magic of my time-traveling, custom-designed, blush-pink tulle tutu - my very own, personally crafted TARDIS, if you will. Ooh-la-la! It's more reliable than a Tube train, I can tell you!
Today's foray into the future sees me jetting off to what feels like the heart of the Drag Universe itself - New York City! They’ve even kept the name. It’s so retro-chic, I’m gagging. And, darlings, the drag scene in New York City in 2052 - it's absolutely mental!
My dear, the drag world in the big apple is an explosive mixture of the hyper-tech and the gloriously glittery! I’m telling you, they are pushing the boundaries of what a drag show can be, blending the virtual, the theatrical and the absolutely fabulous into an utterly unforgettable spectacle. Imagine if you will, projection mapping, holograms, dancers levitating on platforms… it's just mind-blowing. It's truly a breathtaking celebration of drag, creativity, and the human spirit!
I took a right good gawk at ‘CyberQueens’ at the legendary Metropolitan Opera House – that’s a place that hasn’t lost its magic even in the future – and let me tell you, I was gagged! It’s all lasers and robots! And these queens? You’d never believe some of their make-up is AI generated and the hairstyles - they’re actually crafted with nano-materials. Mind blown!. And they are serving LOOKS, honey. We’re talking holographic couture, bioluminescent hair, and custom-designed cyborg accessories – OMG.
They say a lot has changed in the past 30 years (although, darling, I do like to think we have stayed true to the essence of drag). It's more diverse and more inclusive than ever, which is amazing. I saw a trans queen in a glittering green dress (so much green!) rocking a performance of ‘New York State of Mind’ alongside a drag king with a full on beard rocking an acoustic guitar! The place erupted with applause and excitement, with every shade and colour and style under the rainbow on the stage, all just absolutely smashing. And as if that wasn’t enough, this incredible show was even broadcasted into outer space – the queen was even receiving space emojis! It really did feel like we’re all part of one massive drag family!
So, darling, what else is happening on the drag scene in 2052? The global drag community is truly a force to be reckoned with - just look at Drag Race! Yes, it's still going strong, this little show. And they even had a season completely focused on drag history – swoon.
You can't forget about the impact of drag fashion, honey! We’re seeing a real fusion of high-tech fabrics, AI design, and hand-crafted bespoke garments with the future of couture making waves, not to mention drag ball culture reaching a peak with everyone doing looks that wouldn't be out of place on the set of a sci-fi movie, if that makes sense. Oh! And everyone loves a pink tutu - even here, darling. Just like yours truly.
I am simply beaming to think of where drag will take us in the future, my lovelies. And we can always turn to our glorious history to give us guidance and to remind us of the powerful impact we have on the world around us. The art of drag is so important, and that won't change no matter the time and no matter where we’re performing.
Well, darling, it’s time for this old girl to sashay out. I do need to get myself to a show and enjoy the latest in this truly brilliant and unique performance art, but as always, please drop me a comment down below with your favourite parts of this post or anything that strikes you as glamorous! Just keep an eye out for my next blog in the month. Now, excuse me darling, I’ve got a drag show to catch. See you all in our next fabulous adventure!
Xoxo,
Emma
