Hello darlings! Emma here, back from another magical trip in my trusty time-traveling pink tutu, and guess what? This month I’ve been to the future! That's right, 2054, my little angels! It's a year brimming with amazing discoveries, shimmering stages, and - wait for it - pink tutus everywhere! 💖
You know, my dearest readers, some say time travel is a bit too 'avant garde' for a girl like me. They say it’s wild, impossible, but I, my dear readers, simply can’t live my life by other people's limitations! When I saw that magical pink tutu for sale at that antique shop in Derbyshire (a bargain at £3!), I knew it had to be more than just a pretty frock. The shimmering fabric, the whimsical tulle, the sparkle that practically demanded a trip to a galaxy far, far away, well… it had to be something special. That first journey through time (yes, in this very same pink tutu!) landed me smack-dab in the year 1969. Who needs a spaceship when you've got a pink tutu, eh?
Anyways, enough reminiscing about my past journeys! The future calls! 🎤🌟
June 2054, my little lovelies, was a truly electric month. Drag, it seems, has been on an absolute stratospheric ascent! Drag balls, performances, and even drag schools were commonplace. My pink tutu (which, of course, looked perfectly in sync with all the other fashionable queens out there), was practically buzzing with the energy of it all! There's a new style emerging that you'll want to keep an eye on – ‘Digital Drag.’ It’s mind-blowing! The blending of reality, virtual avatars, and holographic projection is just revolutionary! Can you imagine performing your whole show in a multi-dimensional space? It’s drag on steroids!
A Trip to the International Drag MuseumI decided my first stop should be the International Drag Museum in London . This magnificent institution showcased a dazzling history of drag artistry spanning centuries. They had the most gorgeous collection of drag outfits, including a stunning selection of tutus! They had even found a pair from the very first documented drag performance way back in Ancient Greece (which, of course, involved a rather impressive collection of silk scarves… they did have an affinity for flamboyant style back then!).
I mean, who doesn't love a good old drag history lesson, especially in such an awe-inspiring venue? The curator, a fabulous trans-queen called Valentina, explained to me the significance of drag through the ages - from theatrical cross-dressing to a bold celebration of queer identity. Honestly, I was hooked from the moment I walked in.
We ended up having a rather delicious afternoon tea in the Museum's café afterwards. Valentina even had a slice of my Pink Tutu Pavlova! I shared some tales of my time-traveling experiences, and you know what? She seemed genuinely fascinated, even wanting to know about that special shop in Derbyshire. Who knows? Maybe we'll see Valentina at one of my drag shows in the future?
Speaking of Drag Shows…
Let's talk about performances, darling! Drag performances in the 21st century, especially those in 2054, were utterly mesmerizing. They went far beyond simply singing and dancing – think synchronized digital dancers, inter-dimensional set designs, and interactive stories woven with the audience!
One night I had the honour of seeing the one-and-only, *Dragony, perform at ‘The Glitter Palace’ in Los Angeles. * Imagine an entire arena bathed in swirling holographic effects! Dragony, who I think we all know was an incredible performance artist, had completely incorporated those into their show. It was mind-blowing. There was a point where Dragony was literally flying across the stage in a glittering, bioluminescent outfit. The crowd was screaming for more. This woman literally made it rain rainbows at the end of her show, and the best part? I caught one of the little holographic rainbows and got it signed! What a precious souvenir, darlings.
Fashion-Forward Fashionistas!
Of course, no time travel adventure would be complete without a trip to the *biggest drag fashion retailer in the world - * ‘Tutus R Us’. This massive store, (it's literally five floors of all things glamorous!), sold every imaginable style and colour of tutu. I actually went a little overboard (because, you know, sometimes we all do). I mean, could you imagine? I ended up getting six new tutus in total: a stunning sapphire number, a holographic rainbow tutu (which I know will look fabulous in a future drag show, wink wink!), a sparkly black one, and one adorned with adorable tiny, sparkling flamingos – a real gem! I even purchased a sparkly gold one with a flowing cape (for extra dramatic effect) and of course, my pink time-traveling one needed an upgrade! I got one that had hundreds of tiny LEDs to make my entrance into future drag shows even more grand!
And let’s talk about accessories, lovelies! 👑💖 From custom-designed glittery headpieces and bejeweled platforms to elaborate, futuristic wings, and holographic makeup, everything you can imagine was available in an outrageous explosion of creativity! Oh, the glory! It was a bit of an emotional roller coaster leaving ‘Tutus R Us’ (honestly, I left with the full shopping trolley. The lady on the checkout looked at me a bit sideways…), but hey, a drag queen's gotta shop, darling!
Back in 2023 - Back to my Roots!
Back home, my little cherubs, it’s so lovely to be reunited with the comfy armchair and my well-loved collection of drag books. Now, let's be honest, sometimes it’s just good to put your feet up and be back in the now! I will be back, you see, once more with another magical pink tutu story!
As always, I encourage each and every one of you to wear your pink tutu (or your equivalent!) with pride! Embrace your own sparkle and let your personality shine through. After all, it’s what drag is all about!
With love, your dearest,
Emma 💋 💖
PS: My next drag show is on July 5th at the Roxy in Sheffield, so come join me and maybe, just maybe, we'll be reunited by then with the latest pink tutu that you just must see! 😉 #pinktututimetravel #draghistory #dragqueenadventures
