Hello my darling darlings! Emma here, ready to whisk you all back in time to the 2054, 09. - oh honey, the sheer glamour of it all!
This month, my magical pink tutu transported me to a time when the world of drag was truly ablaze with excitement! Think glitter, sequins, and oh, SO much fabulous!
Now, before we embark on this time travel adventure, a quick word about this magical tutu, which, let's face it, is the heart of my entire existence. It's not just your average tulle concoction - it's a gateway to history, my loves! I mean, what else can you wear to hop about time in such magnificent style? This exquisite, pink, fluffy tutu was bestowed upon me by the Drag Goddesses themselves, and with every pirouette, I get a glimpse into a world of glitter and wonder. Let me tell you, my dears, I wouldn't trade this thing for all the sashes and crowns in the universe!
Okay, back to our trip to 2054! Imagine, if you will, a time when every city across the globe was abuzz with drag, a celebration of self-expression and fierce fabulousness. It was like a grand, glittering ball happening everywhere! The diversity of the scene was incredible - from towering femmes with gravity-defying wigs, to fierce kings slaying it in fabulous tailoring, and every expression of drag imaginable in between.
It was, of course, during this fabulous era that we had the arrival of "Drag Universe". The most incredible televised drag competition, filmed in every country in the world. You name it, we had it! Our international judges included the legendary Diva Divine, who had been strutting her stuff since the 1980s and still had those killer legs! It was pure joy seeing the newest generations of drag queens performing alongside veterans like the iconic Celine Shade, whose signature crystal ball wigs are iconic!
So, what was hot in drag fashion during 2054? You'll never guess, my darlings - it was all about sustainability and recycling! Yep, the queens were embracing their eco-conscious selves, creating fabulous outfits out of repurposed materials. From dazzling dresses made out of recycled plastic to head-turning gowns made of old CDs and upcycled electronics, it was a fashion feast for the senses. Plus, you gotta love a drag queen who cares about the planet!
On the theatrical scene, there were absolutely smashing drag extravaganzas taking place everywhere. My favourite show in 2054, was a drag interpretation of "Romeo & Juliet", titled "Romeo and Juleigh" that involved flying aerial dancers, underwater choreography, and mind-blowing set design. I practically cried my fake eyelashes off with emotion! It truly reminded me how theatre can transcend time, and drag is a perfect vehicle for that.
And for the street performances? Oh, honey, they were the real showstoppers! Imagine a drag ball in Paris, with an open-air cabaret performance on a giant floating stage, complete with a pyrotechnics display! The entire city was turned into a drag queen's dream!
I even had a chance to catch a show by a super talented drag queen called "Electra Fiasco," whose talent was next-level amazing. They merged drag, digital art, and holograms in their performances. Their artistry truly blew my mind. Imagine, dancing with yourself in the virtual realm! It was futuristic, camp, and utterly glorious.
You see, darling, this time travel business is all about discovering new perspectives, meeting amazing drag queens, and learning about the ever-evolving history of drag.
However, I need to address something… in my opinion, drag culture still had room to grow, even in 2054. There were still pockets of the world where drag was stigmatised. As much as I loved the dazzling displays of artistry and creativity, it's essential for us all, in every era, to challenge prejudices and fight for equality.
We all have the power to create change. Just like this fabulous pink tutu holds the key to travelling through time, each and every one of us can spark a revolution in our own way.
Remember my loves, wear pink, embrace your inner fabulousness, and remember to wear that smile that turns frowns upside down. And if you ever have a chance to time travel in your own tutu, don't forget to let me know, because as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing better than a pink tutu in every time zone, my loves!
Love and glitter,
Emma
