Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu wearing time traveller! As always, Iām ready to whisk you away on a fantastical journey to another time! This month, Iām stepping into the shimmering, fabulous future, all the way to the year 2056!
Now, before we go galavanting around this futuristic world of fabulousness, letās talk about my little time travelling companion ā my magic pink tutu! I found this divine creation tucked away in a dusty old shop in Derby, and it has magic powers! You wouldn't believe the incredible places Iāve visited! From ancient Rome to roaring twenties New York, this magical tulle confection has brought me through the ages, leaving a trail of sparkle in its wake.
So, hold onto your wigs, darlings, and letās journey together to 2056!
Drag In The Future ā What A Drag!
I arrived in 2056, and let me tell you, this future is overflowing with creativity! The drag scene here is bigger than ever, truly pushing the boundaries of whatās possible! Theyāve even got hologram shows, with incredible laser light effects, dancing projected on towering buildings in major cities. I saw one with an amazing āDragtastic Dance Spectacularā, complete with hologram dancers! It was utterly jaw-dropping, like watching the biggest, most glamorous music video of all time.
The amazing thing about the 2056 drag scene is its inclusivity. Drag wasn't limited to theatres, it had permeated everything! There was street performance, interactive drag on augmented reality social platforms, holographic drag performers at fashion shows - they were everywhere!
They call it "Fluid Drag" - meaning any type of artistic expression is accepted! I spotted a drag queen rocking out on the London Underground using musical graffiti! Imagine! She had designed her own laser light graffiti that flowed and pulsed with the music - so clever!
What I loved the most, was the incredible use of technology to create extravagant effects, pushing the limits of whatās possible on stage and in everyday life! I spotted an incredible drag king called 'Jay, the Holographic Hustler', with holographic clothing that glittered and shifted colours like a thousand stars! He told me he had a team of holographic designers who work with him to create incredible looks! Now that's drag innovation!
But even though technology had blown me away, what I loved most was seeing how this future generation of queens were carrying on the traditions, keeping drag fun and playful for the whole family. There was an amazing queen called "Sasha Sparkles", and she hosted a Drag-Along family show! You could get a photo with your little ones and all her dancers, dressed in beautiful glitter tutus of course! My heart just melted with happiness, they really brought joy to everyone in their community. And what's even more incredible, is Sasha was even collaborating with renowned ballet companies and showcasing some beautiful, choreographed drag ballet pieces!
It really warmed my soul to see a new generation keeping the tradition alive while still forging their own path.
Shopping And Styling - Whereās The Tea?!
Now, no time travel escapade would be complete without a little bit of retail therapy, wouldn't you agree, darlings? 2056ās drag scene definitely took its style cues from futuristic tech - bold colour palettes, sharp geometric cuts and designs, metallic accents and bioluminescent fabrics, all blending in perfect harmony to create a super futuristic look. It made me want to dust off my glitter paint and experiment!
Even the makeup has a super cool sci-fi vibe to it. The queens were wearing incredible shimmering silver eyeliner, and one I saw called "Prisma Queen" used her own futuristic make-up design system that pulsed with lights, as she told me with a flick of her wrist, "Just like the real Milky Way!" She also showed me holographic nail art, where each nail had tiny holographic projections! I'll be taking all these styling tips back with me, ready to rock a futuristic drag look of my own.
They have incredible shopping spaces where you can order any custom holographic drag garment or holographic makeup - delivered to your door by robotic drone in less than 5 minutes! Imagine that!
But here's what's truly inspiring about 2056's fashion ā the diversity and freedom of expression. I saw every style you can imagine! From elegant and traditional ball gowns to the most bizarre, futuristic creations ā truly unique pieces pushing boundaries with no limits!
Time To Wrap It Up, Darlings!
2056 - such a fantastical place, and it's already become a highlight in my time-traveling journey! I left with my heart full of wonder, inspiration and sequins. And, most importantly, I learned the most important thing ā it doesnāt matter what century weāre in, the magic of drag shines brightly and consistently, reminding us all that self-expression, joy and kindness are what make the world truly beautiful!
