Spring is officially here! 🌷 The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and you know what that means? It's time to bring out our favourite tutus and embrace some serious ballet-inspired spring fashion.
Living in Westminster, the heart of London, means being surrounded by inspiration for both ballet and style. The grandeur of the Houses of Parliament, the classic charm of Covent Garden, the sleek modernism of the South Bank… it's all just brimming with fashion possibilities! Today, I'm sharing my tips and tricks for how to infuse your wardrobe with some of that graceful, feminine ballet magic for spring. 🩰
The Ballet Core Trend
Now, you're probably all over the “balletcore” trend. Think delicate pinks and creams, flowing skirts, and those gorgeous ballet-inspired leotards. But, let's face it, ballet fashion isn't just about matching our gym clothes with a pair of ballerina flats. It’s about that timeless grace, the soft feminine energy, the chic simplicity that transcends any single season. It's about finding your own individual way to incorporate ballet into your style.
Start with the Classics:
Before we go into the more modern interpretations, let's look at the true classics. Ballet's essence lies in simple, graceful shapes. That’s why a good-fitting, comfortable tutu should be the backbone of your ballet wardrobe. But I’m not talking about the traditional multi-layered tulle ones we wear in class! We're going for everyday wearability, so think practical chic. I'm loving the trend of tulle skirts. These are so versatile and perfect for pairing with sweaters for that Parisian chic look. You can find amazing tulle skirts from high street brands like ASOS and Topshop or for a truly special occasion, I would recommend checking out brands like Alice + Olivia or Self Portrait.
For Westminster Chic, Keep it Elegant
When styling for the day, my favourite look is a simple but elegant combination. Picture this: a light pink tulle skirt (pink is a key colour for spring and totally on theme in the fashion world right now, but obviously any pastel colour would look fab too). Team that with a delicate white blouse (classic!), and you're already ready to face Westminster. Adding a touch of gold or silver jewelry and a chic pair of flats will complete the look. This can easily be transitioned for an evening out. Just swap your flats for some elegant heels, ditch the blouse and throw on a cute black or cream crop top instead.

Dover Street Market: They are one of London’s favourite fashion hotspots, so if you're looking for that truly unique designer piece, this is where you’ll find it!
Beyond the Tutu:
You don’t need a tutu to incorporate ballet into your style. For spring in Westminster, think about some other key elements to elevate your look.
- Leotards: Yep, those dance leotards are having a moment! Think about adding a simple leotard, perhaps in a pastel shade, to your wardrobe and using it as a base for layering. I’d suggest sticking to more muted colours (grey, black, white) and going for a silky smooth texture rather than a super-sporty look.
- Ballerina Flats: This is a classic. These simple flats can add that signature ballet grace to any look. From pretty ballerina flats by Tory Burch or Everlane to classic ballerina pumps from M&S, the choices are endless!

- Get that graceful posture: If you want your ballet fashion to really stand out, get that ballerina posture! I’m not saying you need to walk on point, but a slight stretch to your back and chest, a small lift to the head… these little touches really bring it all together.
Embrace bold colours: Yes, we are all for pinks and pastel blues, but remember ballet comes in every colour. You’ll see reds and greens and yellows, sometimes even bright fuchsia pink, especially for stage costumes. Let's use this as inspiration and not be afraid of incorporating some bold hues! Just choose fabrics with delicate finishes and that drape nicely for that extra “je ne sais quoi.”

It’s also full of lovely places to stop for lunch or coffee - great for turning your shopping trip into a little afternoon treat!

The Importance of Comfort:
While a chic look is essential, I always stress comfort as an equally crucial element! After all, a ballet dancer's life is all about the graceful movement! Think of soft materials, flowing silhouettes, flattering cuts, and, of course, that comfortable fit which makes you want to move, dance and explore!
