Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog: Post #253 - January 1st, 1682

Hello lovelies! 🩰💖

It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller! January is here, and you know what that means? Resolutions, new beginnings, and a whole lot of swirling, leaping, and twirling, because darling, we're heading back in time! 🕰️

This month, we're taking a trip back to the year 1682, and you better believe Magic Meg is all polished up and ready for a time-hopping adventure. Can you picture it? We’re galloping through the misty meadows of Derbyshire, towards the heart of the seventeenth century. I have my pink tutu packed in my trusty leather rucksack (it's just a bit too fabulous to leave behind, even when travelling back in time) alongside my ballet notebook and a pair of sparkly pink ballet shoes – because even a time traveller needs a little glamour, right? 😉

Oh, and speaking of glamour! Remember how I told you my aim in life is to get everyone wearing a pink tutu? Well, in 1682, I’m going to get a head start on that mission. They’ll all be swooning over my bright, bubblegum-coloured tutu – even the most stoic of royals will be tempted to twirl with me!

But what’s actually happening in the world of ballet on January 1st, 1682, you ask? Well, hold onto your pink feather boas, lovelies, because the world of ballet in 1682 was all about elegance and refinement! This is long before our favourite ballerina names like Swan Lake, Giselle, or even the nutcracker. Back then, ballet was courtly, intricate, and filled with dazzling costume displays. I hear King Louis XIV himself was a big fan – just the sort of person I need to meet! 🤩

Speaking of fashion, can we just talk about the absolutely gorgeous costumes from that period? Ruffled shirts, extravagant gowns, and lace, oh so much lace! Imagine the gorgeousness if I were to twirl my way into a court ball in this era. You’d be able to spot my pink tutu from miles away, that’s for sure!

I’ve heard whisperings that the Royal Academy of Music was established around this time too. What better opportunity to learn the graceful movements of this early ballet world and bring back new moves to try in our modern-day dance classes! Imagine all the swirling elegance of that era infused with our 21st-century moves. Ooh, it’s all getting me excited just thinking about it! ✨

But there’s more than just dance history on the agenda for my time travels, lovelies. The world of ballet is so much more than pirouettes and pliés, it’s about expression, it’s about stories, it’s about feeling the rhythm of life through movement. In the spirit of new beginnings, we're going to uncover some of those stories. Maybe even catch a glimpse of what the people in this period considered beautiful and graceful – because even back then, ballet was all about the grace and beauty of movement, about the elegance of art in motion.

Now, it wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu Time Travel blog post if we didn't share some beautiful ballet related goodies I picked up this month, would it? While rummaging through some ancient tomes (which thankfully weren't too dusty – who has time for dirt?!) I found this incredible handwritten copy of a dance manual for courtiers, full of beautiful calligraphy and incredibly intricate diagrams illustrating the different dance positions and steps of the era! I can’t wait to put these intricate moves into practice with the ballet troupe in the studio back at home. Just imagine the surprise on their faces as I tell them it’s a move from over 350 years ago! 🤭

Oh, and I couldn't resist buying a few silk ribbons for my ballet skirt! Imagine my new creation… think a vintage silk scarf with a touch of sparkle! 🤩 I can just imagine the envy in the eyes of those 17th-century ladies – but who knows, they might even decide to trade in their corseted outfits for a pink tutu or two!

Stay tuned, darlings! There are so many adventures in the world of ballet history waiting to be uncovered. Next month, I’ll be back with another post about the world of pink tutus, historical ballet discoveries, and, of course, another fascinating journey into the past! 🕰️💖

Until then, stay beautiful and twirl like there's no tomorrow! ✨
