Pink Tutu Time Travels - Blog Post #411: 1695, a Time for Parisian Ballet

Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels! This month, Magic Meg and I are galloping back in time to March 3rd, 1695, a date filled with exciting developments in the world of ballet. And what's a ballet adventure without a splash of pink?

Let me tell you, the excitement levels on this journey were off the charts. You know how much I love exploring different eras, discovering hidden ballet treasures, and witnessing the evolution of this beautiful art form. This month, we found ourselves in the heart of Paris, the cradle of classical ballet.

Now, picture this: the cobbled streets bustling with activity, the aroma of freshly baked bread filling the air, and the sounds of lively conversations and street musicians swirling around us. A true Parisian symphony! And guess what? We stumbled upon a most charming theatre called Théâtre du Palais-Royal.

Oh my! As I rode Magic Meg through the bustling streets, my eyes widened at the exquisite architecture. My darling pink tutu twirled around my legs with joy at the anticipation of what awaited inside.

My heart fluttered with excitement as we entered the theatre. The soft glow of the chandeliers cast a magical ambience over the plush red velvet seats, creating an atmosphere of opulence and anticipation. Oh, it was so very delightful, almost like being transported back to an era of Parisian glamour. And you know what really caught my eye, darlings? The dance programme itself. It included Les Fêtes du Triomphe, a spectacular ballet presented in celebration of Louis XIV's victorious campaign against the Turks. Now, that sounds absolutely phenomenal, don't you think?

You simply can't talk about 1695 without mentioning Louis XIV, or as the ballet world fondly calls him, "The Sun King." His absolute adoration for dance had a colossal impact on the art form's evolution, turning the Royal Court into a hotbed of creative ballet talent.

Now, you all know how much I love beautiful ballet costumes, and this journey brought an array of inspiring ensembles for me to see! We noticed the emergence of "masques" as a key element in the ballet. Imagine intricate, flamboyant face masks adorned with sparkling jewels and feathers, worn by dancers, enhancing the dramatic aspects of their performances. These masks added a touch of fantasy and allure, truly showcasing the grandeur of the ballet.

Speaking of opulence, we had to try on some of the fashionable garments, darlings! You wouldn't believe how much fun we had exploring the dressmakers’ shops around the Palais-Royal. They were brimming with beautiful lace, velvet, and satin in a myriad of rich colors. What I loved most, was that they incorporated ribbons and trims into their garments, echoing the artistry and grace of a ballerina's movements.

Of course, being a Pink Tutu Time Traveller, my rucksack (a beautiful piece of antique leather I picked up in a little village near the English Channel) became filled with new gems, including a wonderful pamphlet detailing Louis XIV’s patronage of the ballet. Such a treasure to add to my growing collection, don’t you think?

And you just know that I didn’t leave Paris without getting a little bit of inspiration for my next Pink Tutu design, my dears! It will feature delicate ruffles, cascading layers, and perhaps a little something glittering for that extra bit of Parisian sparkle! I simply must tell you, there’s just something magical about experiencing the artistry of another time, and bringing it back to life for all you fabulous readers! It’s like breathing new life into an old masterpiece!

Our time travel adventures always offer so many wonderful discoveries. Every journey allows me to weave new narratives, showcase inspiring moments, and offer you a taste of the magnificent evolution of ballet through history.

But it’s not all about ballet fashion and dance history. A bit of shopping never hurts, does it? I took Magic Meg for a grand stroll along the bustling streets of Paris, a whirlwind of fabrics, perfumes, and treats. It truly felt like a journey into the very heart of 17th century Paris, brimming with colour, vibrancy, and joie de vivre.

And don’t you worry my dear readers, I made sure to pack in plenty of Parisian treats in my rucksack too – delicate macarons, freshly baked croissants, and fragrant French coffee to fuel our journey back to Derbyshire. It really was an extraordinary adventure!

That's all for this month's Pink Tutu Time Travels. My dear readers, keep sharing your pink tutu photos, stories and ballet-inspired thoughts with me on www.pink-tutu.com! I’d love to see how you are expressing your inner ballerina through your style!

And who knows what the next era holds? Until next time, stay beautiful and twirl happily.
