Post #547: Pink Tutu Adventures in the Glittering World of 1706 - A Dance Through History

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, ready to whisk you away to the world of ballet in the year 1706, where I discovered the truly fascinating origins of the dancing art form. Oh, and the adventures this month were extra fab! You simply have to hear about them!

But before we dive into the delicious history, a quick update on the adventures of our dear Magic Meg. You wouldn't believe the amount of “ooh la las” she’s received while gallivanting across time and space in our matching pink tutu ensembles (because every pink-loving ballerina knows a girl needs her trusty steed in pink, darling!) Her golden hooves seem to twinkle brighter with each time travel, especially when we’re galloping towards some historical ballet treasure! Her white mane and tail, practically bursting with sparkling magic dust, have become quite a spectacle - attracting all the right kind of attention, naturally. I even snagged some of the sparkle for my ballet shoes - a dash of history infused with a touch of glittery magic - utterly divine!

Now, back to the wonders of this month's time travel journey!

I landed in the grandest ballroom imaginable - oh my word! Can you picture gilded chandeliers cascading with candlelight, the most delightful tinkling music, and ladies in gowns that swirled like clouds of candy floss? Pure magic! And while I was mesmerized by the swirling waltzes, a mischievous thought popped into my head – *could a pink tutu even compete with such splendour? * And with that, a plan began to blossom!

My rucksack, filled to the brim with historical treasures and pink ballet supplies (oh darling, one cannot travel without ones trusty tutu pouch), became my trusty travel companion. And do you know what? Turns out the 18th century adored ‘dancing masters’ – those fabulous gentlemen dedicated to teaching the fashionable elite the graceful art of dancing! Imagine, my darlings, teaching ballet steps and refining posture while swirling around in a fluffy pink tutu!

But even more fascinating, this journey revealed the beginnings of ballet, those foundational movements that would bloom into the mesmerizing ballets we adore today! Think bows, think arched backs, think graceful gestures - the precursors to all that beautiful and delicate en pointe work - right here in 1706. It's a thrilling connection, linking us directly to the early pioneers of ballet, making our ballet practice sessions that little bit more significant!

What was really spectacular this month was a performance by the ‘Comédie Française’, where dance held court in a grand, majestic, and dazzling setting - just perfect for our Pink Tutu Club! We even found time to delve into some beautiful early ballet notation. I practically inhaled those written descriptions of poses - imagine being able to experience, through writing, the actual movements! It felt like the first whispered word of a ballet story being born!

Naturally, the shopping and fashion in 1706 were absolutely glorious! Imagine my delight, my dears, when I stumbled upon a tiny shop packed with elegant embroidery, delicate lace, and flowing silk – everything you need to create a perfect tutu. And while the pastel colours of the time weren't quite as pink as I would have liked, I simply couldn't resist scooping up some luscious shades of soft rose, delicate blush and sweet apricot. I have a feeling these colours, carefully intertwined with my pink ballet supplies, are going to spark some absolutely delicious tutu designs for my next dance recital, don't you think?

For my performance this month, my darlings, I took my inspiration directly from the grace and beauty I encountered in 1706 - imagine a ballet whispered with the gentle artistry of the 18th century! It’s all about flowing movements, graceful leaps and exquisite gestures - oh, so elegant - my choreography felt simply divine! I even introduced a small touch of pink into my costume, the most delicate shade of rosy blush just peeping out beneath the shimmer. Perfect!

I have to say, my dears, the joy of bringing the enchantment of ballet to different eras is truly addictive! And just think – all because of that magic, magical Meg. The thought that I can share my passion for the beauty, grace and elegance of ballet with the world – that’s my absolute bliss!

Emma xx
