Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com! I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to share with you my latest adventure. September 9th, 1714? Oh, my darlings, that date sent shivers of delight right through my tutu! It was a truly unforgettable trip, a historical ballet journey with more sparkle than a diamond tiara.
But first, let's talk about my trusty travel companion, Magic Meg! Have you seen this pink shimmer-horse?! She's absolutely stunning, with a mane and tail the colour of spun white silk and golden hooves that gleam like sunshine. It's like Meg was designed for the stage herself! On her back, I carry my trusty leather rucksack – stuffed with my little ballet finds and notes for this month's blog post.
Now, back to my trip! On that September 9th in 1714, a truly regal event was taking place - the premiere of the Royal Ballet Company's inaugural performance at the newly renovated Drury Lane Theatre in London! Oh, can you imagine the grandeur? Just the thought of the red velvet seats, the elegant gentlemen in their powdered wigs, the ladies in their rustling silk gowns, and the delicate whisper of a hundred tutus is simply heavenly!
Of course, the dancing was simply sensational! You see, my darlings, this was just at the beginning of Ballet as we know it. No elaborate plots yet, just elegant movements and masterful technique - pure classical grace! It was truly mesmerising! I even caught a glimpse of the choreographer, Louis de Pury, a Frenchman with a flair for elegant steps and beautiful arm positions.
I have to say, I was rather jealous of their outfits! The dancers were adorned in elegant silk costumes, with feathers and sequins – very extravagant, wouldn’t you agree? Imagine, dancing in a gown of the finest satin – truly a ballet dream come true! Of course, their footwear was a bit different – shoes with slightly elevated heels instead of pointe shoes! Such a graceful movement and incredible control for that era, imagine trying that!
After the show, I took a little wander through London, just soaking in the atmosphere of the time. The streets were bustling with activity. I caught sight of a few street dancers, their clothes were a bit more simple than those in the theatre, but just as lively and entertaining! And, you’ll never believe it! A little girl came up to me – a ballerina in the making, wearing a bright pink satin skirt – it reminded me so much of my tutus! Oh, the sheer joy in her eyes as she danced on the cobbled streets was contagious. It really struck me then how, even though ballet might change through the years, that feeling of passion and delight for the art remains the same.
As for my time travelling this month, well, the ballet shows, shopping for a beautiful pink satin gown for my next time-travel event, the enchanting street performances and my journey to Derbyshire, where my own little ballet academy awaits. Life is pretty full of twirls, my dears.
Speaking of twirls, darlings, I really want to see everyone out there sporting a pink tutu! Join my tutu movement, be bold, be free, be you! Let your inner ballerina shine. Just imagine: the world twirling in shades of pink! It's time to let loose and have some fun!
So, that's it for this month's Pink Tutu Time Travel blog, dears! Make sure to catch next month’s adventure!
Until then, twirl, shimmer, and let your heart shine!
Lots of love,
Emma xx
