Hello my darling tutu-twirling darlings!
Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travel! August is upon us, and the air is abuzz with excitement. I’m back with another enchanting tale from the swirling history of ballet – this time, we’re setting our time-traveling sights on the 8th of August, 1716. I’m feeling quite dashing in my favourite bubblegum pink tulle tutu, perfectly complimented by a dash of shimmering rose gold embroidery. It’s all about bringing the sunshine to any era, you see. 😉
My dear, majestic Meg – the most flamboyant pink Shire you’ve ever seen, with her gold hooves and cascading white mane - is already champing at the bit. She knows I love a grand entrance. This time, we’re venturing into the glittering world of London, a hub of exquisite style and, of course, the beginning of the English ballet scene.
Let’s dive into the ballet timeline together, shall we? I've packed my trusty leather rucksack with my special pink-lined notebooks to jot down every exquisite detail, ready to share it all with you. Buckle up, lovelies, and prepare to be whisked away!
London’s Dancing DreamsIt’s 1716, and England is buzzing. King George I has ascended the throne, and his love for all things lavish is starting to trickle down into the ballet scene. Now, I wouldn’t say that this was the most glittering time for ballet as we know it.
Yes, dancing has its place – it's part of every aristocratic social gathering. However, the French style that captivated me in the court of Louis XIV back in the late 1600s is just beginning to find its footing here.
Instead, you'd be more likely to catch the eye of the ladies with your English Country Dancing skills. Imagine lots of elegant, rhythmic steps with a touch of rustic charm, unlike anything we do on the modern stage. It's the dance of the country gentry!
However, that doesn't mean it isn't captivating. Imagine elegant ballrooms, swirling in candlelight. I’d love to see a glimpse of it. How dreamy!
But fear not, dear readers, because while we may not have a fully fledged ballet performance this day, I'm still eager to explore what’s brewing in London's theatre world!
London's Theatre Scene - A Whiff of The Future?Think of grand, ornate theatres – just like those I saw in Vienna – filled with gasps, laughs and clapping! That's the sort of energy I crave. This is where you might have stumbled across the start of a ballet performance... or perhaps not! But I'm more intrigued about a different sort of entertainment.
My dear Meg knows a little birdie who mentioned that the renowned English dramatist, John Vanbrugh, opened his Drury Lane Theatre in 1716, a building that is destined to play an important role in the evolution of theatre! Now, isn't that fascinating? I can't wait to peek inside one day!
Perhaps next time I time-travel to this period, I'll bring my portable gramophone, blast out some music and convince the people of London to give ballet a go, darling! Maybe, with my bubbly pink tutu and Meg’s glittery presence, we can spark a craze for balletic bliss! 😉
Time For Tutu Talk 🩰I was telling a friend about my London escapade, and guess what? He gave me some fabulous advice. "Emma, darling!" he exclaimed, "Why don't you start your own collection of ballet outfits? It's all the rage."
Of course, he’s right! It’s never too early to invest in some delightful, exquisite garments, whether for stage or even everyday wear! And why not?! With a vibrant, shimmering tutu like mine, anything is possible.
There's nothing more stunning than the billowing, cascading layers of tulle in soft pinks and reds that I’ve seen in my travels through the ballet history timeline! The ultimate aim is to find one in a gorgeous cherry blossom pink - perfect for me, I must say!
After my research for this blog post, I’m actually feeling quite inspired! So, my darlings, grab your sewing needles and unleash your creative spirit! Perhaps it’s time we add a touch of ballet elegance to our wardrobes for the upcoming autumn season! You know what they say… A touch of pink can always elevate your day. 😉
Fashion-Forward Fun!Speaking of elegance and inspiration… Have you heard about the latest fashion trends, my dears? I saw a fascinating exhibit in the Victoria and Albert museum last week that was dedicated to the art of corsetry in the 18th Century. The artistry behind those creations was unbelievable! They gave women a truly striking silhouette, so alluring. The French influence, of course, played a huge role in developing corsetry, as did the evolution of the skirt design and fabrics like silks and satins, a perfect complement to the dramatic shapes of the day.
It makes you realize just how crucial those subtle touches can be in completing a look. And that applies to ballet, darling, don’t you agree? Those tiny details – the right pointe shoes, the perfectly placed feather – it all adds to the story!
My personal favourite, of course, is a delicate, floral headpiece. They really bring that touch of feminine grace to any ballet performance. Think exquisite pearls woven with lace and flowers in every shade imaginable – just dreamy! Don't forget the colour scheme! Blush pink and coral work beautifully against a classic white tutu. So elegant, so refined!
But even if you can’t quite rock a full-length corseted gown, think of those delicate silk ribbons and bows! These little details can transform a simple tutu and make you stand out from the crowd. Remember, you've got to wear your fashion with confidence, ladies. And always sprinkle it with a pinch of glamour! 💖
Ballet’s Unforgettable SpiritThis blog post is a little shorter than usual, my darlings, but trust me, that doesn't mean it's any less exciting! Sometimes, the real stories behind a time period can be found not on a grand stage but in the quieter moments, the subtle beginnings, just waiting for their own grand entrance! The future is bursting with exciting stories and a wealth of ballet treasures. But first, I need a good cuppa. My ballet adventures are exhausting, darling, but oh so wonderful!
So, until next time, remember to embrace the magic of your inner tutu twirler and let your dreams fly! Be bold, be elegant, be beautiful!
Sending you all big virtual hugs and a twirl of ballet magic!
With love and twinkling sparkles,
Emma xx
