Hey darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling ballet blogger! September 1716, you say? Ooh, darling, we're going to the very heart of the English theatre scene – it's all so deliciously dramatic! 🎭
Let me tell you, darling, hopping onto Magic Meg's back, with my sparkly pink tutu billowing in the wind, always feels like a little piece of magic. We’re travelling from Derbyshire to London, a quick canter through time and… BOOM! We’re here, in the heart of the London theatre district. It's positively bustling!
Can you imagine the sheer joy of theatre in those days? No Netflix, no Instagram – it was pure, unadulterated entertainment, and my goodness, how I wish I had a ticket for one of these performances!
So, what's on the menu tonight? The Theatre Royal Drury Lane! And guess what? It's bursting with an absolutely stellar programme. My darling, you wouldn't believe the line-up:
- The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, a captivating tragedy by the incomparable Christopher Marlowe. I bet they had those fabulous red velvets and gold trimmings I adore, the dramatic pauses and theatrical entrances… oh, it just sounds perfect!
- The Beaux' Stratagem! Ah, darling, how wonderful – it's a sparkling, witty comedy! Imagine, audiences enjoying satire and witty dialogue on a night like this. There’s even some dancing in it, though nothing quite as graceful as ballet, of course. I bet those gentlemen in powdered wigs, though… 😉
It’s absolutely positively fabulous, isn't it? London has truly embraced its place as the centre of the entertainment universe! And me, darling? I’m off to catch a glimpse of this vibrant world – the smells of popcorn, the anticipation in the air, the whispers of exciting gossip… oh, la la!
But before I do, let's talk about ballet – what a magnifique thing it was in the 18th century. I imagine it as a swirling mix of elegant movements, precise steps, and the utter joy of expressing emotions through dance. Think intricate hand gestures, those delicate bourrées, the soaring grace of a grand jeté... It wasn’t just entertainment – it was storytelling, beauty, and an almost poetic form of movement.
And the fashion, oh, the fashion! Can you even imagine how truly spectacular it must have been? With corsets and long skirts and all those beautiful fabrications, dancing must have felt like a pure sensory feast! Imagine my pink tutu, darling, standing out like a beacon in this grand old world. Every time I hop off Magic Meg and into a new era, I know it will be a pink-tutu paradise. 🩰
And of course, my darling, you know my obsession with history is all for you. My leather rucksack is stuffed with all the snippets, secrets, and stories of ballet from this era. I want to make sure each of you knows its origins.
But my lovelies, I've got a performance to get to! This isn't just time-travel - it’s my chance to be on stage, showcasing the sheer elegance of ballet. It’s all thanks to this incredible opportunity I've been gifted - performing in shows keeps the time travel going!
Catch me on www.pink-tutu.com next month. My dear loves, have a positively glorious month – I'll see you next time! 💖
Much love, Emma
P.S: Remember, darling, everyone looks stunning in a pink tutu! 😉 You can always get your very own pink tutu online! 😉 Just remember to dance, love, and shine!✨
