Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome back to my blog! Iām absolutely buzzing with excitement for this monthās adventure, and I know youāre going to love hearing all about it! October is such a gorgeous month, full of crisp autumn air, crunchy leaves, andā¦wait for itā¦the perfect weather for ballet!
This month, Iāve found myself back in the vibrant and exciting world of 1718! Imagine ā the bustling streets of London, the grandeur of royal court, and, oh my, the dazzling fashions! Just imagine strolling along the Thames, stopping at a charming little cafĆ© for a delightful cup of tea (with sugar of course!) before taking in a stunning ballet performance, dressed in the most beautiful gown, perfectly complementing my luscious pink tutu! Oh, wouldnāt it be utterly fabulous!
And talking about fabulous, this journey has been simply spectacular!
The Journey to 1718
This month, my darling Magic Meg, my trusty pink shimmering shire horse with golden hooves and flowing white mane and tail, brought me straight to London in 1718! I had on my best pink tutu with sparkly sequins and a flowing white bodice, naturally, and I even threw my favourite velvet pink coat over my shoulders, just to be extra fabulous. Magic Meg seemed to understand my desire for a grand entrance ā the locals gasped in wonder at the sight of my pink horse and shimmering tutu.
The first stop was a must ā the Royal Opera House, known back then as the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. This venue, darling, is practically legendary ā imagine the stories it holds! Sadly, there wasnāt a ballet performance that evening, but luckily, a wonderful gentleman ā all elegant buckles and frilled cuffs ā explained to me all about the upcoming season. And do you know what I discovered?
The premiere of āThe Loves of Mars and Venusā ā a grand and spectacular ballet ā is being presented next month! Oh my goodness, I couldnāt be more excited ā the combination of beauty, grace, and historical importance makes this absolutely a must-see event! Just thinking about the beautiful costumes and elaborate choreography sends shivers down my spine ā in a good way of course!
Ballet in 1718
And just in case you think that ballet in 1718 isn't quite as exciting as, say, modern contemporary, then let me tell you darling, youāre very wrong! In 1718, ballet was a huge part of court life ā think of grand dances and exquisite costumes. Ballet was like a mix of story, music, and elegant dance moves, and I hear tell, it's still as popular as ever ā the royal family were, are, and will always be, huge ballet fans!
I visited the rehearsal studio and discovered what life was like for these pioneering ballerinas ā lots of hard work, beautiful costumes and a huge passion for dance! These ballet artists worked tirelessly, honing their technique, building up their strength, and truly mastering the art of dancing. Their costumes are quite impressive - beautifully adorned with sequins, and elegant feathers ā truly worthy of royalty. I was completely enraptured, I must say!
Adventures in Fashion!
Speaking of royal! I discovered an adorable shop just a stone's throw from the theatre ā overflowing with the most beautiful fabrics. Velvets, satins, silksā¦you name it, they had it! I fell in love with a vibrant magenta silk - just imagine it against my pink tutu! So, darling, naturally I indulged and purchased a generous amount!
Taking Notes
And now for my collection, darlings! Of course, I've added these wonderful treasures to my rucksack:
- A handwritten ballet score from 1718: Oh my, imagine! These exquisite handwritten musical scores were so painstakingly created. I can hardly wait to share this little beauty on my website, perhaps a little music for you lovely readers to enjoy!
- A snippet of a ballerinaās dress: It's made from such intricate patterns and sequins. It gives me a sense of their skill and passion, just wonderful!
- *A flyer for āThe Loves of Mars and Venusā: *Just imagine, Iām going to attend the premiere of this very ballet next month! I feel quite special!
And I think my time in 1718 has given me a brilliant idea for a future project! Just imagine, a pink tutu inspired by the dazzling court style of this era ā perhaps a touch of embellishments, a flowy tulle, a beautiful pink velvet sash, oh, the possibilities!
I promise you this darling, Iāll have a stunning tutu inspired by this era soon!
Farewell for now, darlings!
Thatās all for this month, Iāve got to go, but donāt worry, you can always join me on my journey to spread the pink tutu magic at www.pink-tutu.com! Until next time, wear your favourite pink tutu, smile bright, and dance with joy!
