Hello fellow tutu-lovers! Emma here, back from another exciting ballet adventure through the annals of time! It’s always a thrill to step back and see what beautiful moves and stories graced the stages of yore. This month, we’re taking a trip back to November 11th, 1718, a date that might not immediately jump out at you as a significant moment in ballet history, but believe me, it’s brimming with intrigue!
The air is crisp as I touch down in Paris on my trusty steed, Magic Meg. You know, even after all these years, that shimmering pink coat she sports is still turning heads! She’s the most fabulous time-travelling shire horse you’ll ever meet – those golden hooves and white mane make her a real showstopper.
Today, we’re focusing on something very special: the development of the Parisian ballet scene. You might not realize it, but even back then, ballet was attracting some serious fashionistas! As I stroll the cobbled streets, I spy some charming ladies decked out in beautiful costumes, reminiscent of the grace and fluidity we find in ballet performances today. I bet those lovely ruffled gowns would look stunning on a stage!
My trusty leather rucksack is packed and ready for the adventure. Every journey is a chance to collect little treasures: sketches of early choreography, fascinating stories about the evolution of ballet steps, and snippets of those intriguing French court dances that inspired ballet's development.
This specific date marks a significant milestone. You see, while ballet itself had been developing for a good few years, it was beginning to truly gain traction as an art form. I’ve just witnessed a wonderful, albeit informal, performance in the home of a wealthy Parisian gentleman. Can you imagine!
They’ve got music, they've got beautiful costumes – oh, I just love it! This kind of intimate gathering is the foundation of the Parisian ballet scene. It’s these social gatherings that paved the way for grand performances and eventually, for ballet schools and theaters! It's quite exciting to think I might be seeing a ballet scene evolve in real time!
Oh, and a bit of gossip: The French ladies are wild about a new ballet called 'Les Fêtes Chinoises'. Imagine my delight, they've already started introducing elements of exoticism! I just have a feeling this ballet is going to be absolutely breathtaking! Can't wait to witness its rise!
As I gaze across the cityscape, the cobblestone streets shimmer under the twinkling gaslights, the air thick with the scent of warm pastries. A shiver of excitement runs through me as I imagine the brilliant ballets that will grace these Parisian stages in the years to come.
It's not just about seeing the ballet's evolution, my darlings. My mission is to encourage everyone, everywhere to embrace the tutu! It's all about expressing yourself through dance, the ultimate art form of grace and elegance! Why not wear a tutu on your next trip to the theatre, for your dance class, even to the shops! It’s about embracing your inner ballerina! And with all the wonderful colors and styles out there, you can find the perfect tutu to suit your personality. Think pink, think dazzling, think fabulous, think… tutu!
Stay tuned, darling! My time travelling adventures continue next month! Until then, keep dancing, keep dreaming and above all, keep your tutus sparkly and pink!
Love,
Emma x
