Pink Tutu Time Travel: 1759, August 8th!

Hello darlings!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travel, the blog where we journey through time, one sparkly pink tutu at a time! It's your girl Emma here, straight from the heart of Derbyshire. Today, we're embarking on a dazzling journey to 1759, August 8th, a date filled with intriguing ballet happenings. My trusty steed, the magnificent Magic Meg (who, if I do say so myself, is looking particularly radiant in her pink and golden attire today), is raring to go!

Pink Power: On the Road to 1759

With a sprinkle of fairy dust and a heartfelt "Giddy up, Meg!", we're whisked away, my leather rucksack packed with excitement, ready to collect some new ballet treasures and stories. As we speed through time, I can't help but reflect on the evolution of the ballet tutu. Back then, imagine my surprise - there wasn't a pink tutu in sight! Imagine that! Back in 1759, ballet fashion was still in its infancy, the skirts a bit longer, the colours more muted. I'm hoping to pick up some exquisite examples of 18th-century dance costumes for my Pink Tutu museum! Perhaps even some designs that I can tweak into a fabulously modern pink tutu design, who knows?!

A Peek into Ballet in 1759

Now, August 8th in 1759, while not a major date on the ballet calendar, did have a very interesting element! This day marked the debut of the first ever 'balletic' pantomime at the Théâtre Italien in Paris! This isn't the grand pantomime we think of with elaborate costumes and fantastical plots, mind you! It was actually a much more subtle and intricate form of theatrical expression.

I can just imagine the audience, ladies and gentlemen dressed in their finest attire, engrossed in this performance. Maybe a gentleman's costume had a touch of pink in the ribbon at his knee? And the ladies, oh, the ladies! Even if their skirts were not as fluffy and pink as ours today, their presence would surely have filled the room with grace and elegance.

The Power of Performance

One of the reasons I adore time travel is the chance to see performances firsthand! These journeys fuel my own performances back in my time, so I can bring that sparkle and magic to my audience. Seeing the dancers on stage in 1759, even though their style was different from ours, reminds me of the power and the magic of ballet.

Speaking of my own performances, I just finished a charity gala that benefited "Dance for Dreams", an amazing charity bringing dance education to children across Derbyshire. It was a fabulous show, featuring a brand new pink tutu design (that was definitely inspired by my last few time travel trips!), and a medley of classical ballet favourites with a modern twist. If you're looking to help us bring dance to more children, please visit www.dancefordreams.org for information!

Back to the Blog

After all the adventures of today, I'm feeling so inspired and buzzing with energy! And wouldn't you know it, Magic Meg's tail is gleaming with an even stronger shade of pink. I guess this means that our journey wasn't just filled with the wonders of ballet history, but with magical memories, too!

My darling readers, before we part ways for this month, tell me about your ballet adventures! Share them with me on the Pink Tutu Time Travel website (www.pink-tutu.com)! It's our 1184th post, so let's make it one to remember! I can't wait to hear from you all!

Until next month, darlings, and may your days be filled with twirls, pirouettes, and of course, pink!

Yours truly,

Emma xxx
