Pink Tutu Travels: Ballet History 1781 - 5th May (Post #1445)

Hello my lovely ballet bunnies! It's Emma here, your very own pink tutu-wearing time travelling ballerina. This month, we're taking a trip back in time, a full 244 years, to 5th May 1781. Can you believe it? 1781! Imagine no electricity, no internet, no mobile phones, but just the beautiful world of ballet! It makes you appreciate our lovely world of dance even more, doesn't it?

Now, before we begin, if you haven't yet had the chance to grab yourself a fabulous pink tutu - and I simply can't believe anyone hasn't yet! - pop on over to www.pink-tutu.com and browse the collection. You'll be absolutely spoiled for choice. There's something for everyone - from shimmering sequins and frills to tulle that makes you float. You'll be twirling in style in no time, just like a ballerina should!

Speaking of twirling, we all know the joy of a fabulous ballet performance, and, just as a delightful teaser for our little trip to the past, guess what I found for us on this date back in 1781? That's right, we are off to Vienna!

Can you imagine the exquisite costumes and choreography back then? The elegant gowns, the flowing scarves, and of course, the very beginnings of those dazzling tutus that we adore today! They might not have been exactly as they are today - much more likely to be soft satin or velvet, but I have to say I bet they were simply delightful.

And speaking of delight, how about we grab our backpacks (mine is a gorgeous leather number filled with ballet goodies) and hop aboard our trusted steed, Meg? Magic Meg is a magnificent pink-sparkling shire horse with the most stunning golden hooves and a white mane and tail - she's simply perfect for a ballerina on the go! I do love how a good strong steed keeps things in the proper timeframe when it comes to time travel. Imagine turning up at 5th May 1781 and everyone's all, "what year are we in?". Meg saves me that little embarrassing situation.

Onwards!

Now, Vienna is a city of rich history and cultural impact. Imagine the buzz around the theaters! You can practically hear the rustling of silks, the murmuring of excited audiences, the rhythmic clap of applause as they revel in the sheer artistry on display! It was the time of greats like Joseph Haydn and Mozart and one could only imagine how magnificent their ballets must have been!

One thing I did learn though is, unlike now where ballet is seen by almost everyone and seen as a fantastic sport and art form, back then, it wasn’t considered high-brow enough by society.

"What!? A ballet, dear me. No! A ballet - an audience of common people? Don't be ridiculous. Why don’t you come with me to see Hamlet." Oh, you can imagine.

But, with the power of pink tutus and sparkly shire horses, one must believe in the future of our favourite dance form, because I can tell you - and all you little ballet bunnies will be delighted to hear - even then, ballet held a charm all its own!

Of course, ballet performances aren't the only things I like to see when I travel! You know me, I’m always keen to check out the local shops, especially when it comes to beautiful ballet fashion. We just have to go on this little journey and find out what fashionable shoes, headbands, and even possible tutu inspiration they had going on. Now, imagine if I can convince some fashion houses to design a real pink-tutu inspired dress - the thought of it makes my heart dance!

But first, a word about how I actually fund all these amazing travels! Don't be afraid to ask because the secret is... ballet! That's right! When I'm not whisked away on time-traveling adventures with Meg, I spend my days dancing my heart out on stage. I love bringing joy and magic to people through the artistry of ballet, and guess what? My performance fees help keep this travelling ballerina going!

It's such a beautiful way to combine my passion for ballet with my love of time travel, and it helps me to discover new things, share inspiring stories, and maybe, just maybe, inspire you to wear a pink tutu! Now, I must be going because a grand ballroom ball is going to commence, a dance extravaganza you wouldn't believe, filled with dazzling waltzes and spirited waltzes - a delight to see. Oh, and a possible pink tutu on a Countess too - I don't want to spoil it, so come along to find out. I have to go get ready! I've decided on a flowing pink-silk, ballet inspired dress with the prettiest white satin sleeves! I hope it doesn't make too much of a splash, but hey! I can't resist! It wouldn't be an Emma journey without a little splash of fun and fabulousness!

Catch you all next time my lovely ballet bunnies! And remember, always twirl in style. You're a pink tutu queen, and that's just delightful!

Emma x
