Hello, my lovely dancers! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com! It's Emma here, your resident ballet time-traveller, and this month, I'm starting the new year with a very special journey. It's 1st January 1803 and the air is crisp and clean, just begging for a pirouette!
My faithful steed, Magic Meg - a pink, sparkling Shire horse with the most magnificent mane and tail you've ever seen - is pawing the ground impatiently. She loves a good adventure as much as I do, and today, we're galloping off to discover the ballet world of the early 19th century!
Now, as you all know, a time traveller's got to be prepared! I've packed my leather rucksack, bursting with treasures I hope to find. There might be an old ballet score I can collect, or a forgotten costume sketch tucked away in some dusty archive! You never know what you'll unearth on a time travel adventure, especially when it comes to ballet.
But enough about me - let's talk about what's going on in the ballet world today. This is the age of romanticism, and there's a lot of excitement about the beauty of the natural world, expressing emotion through dance, and, of course, beautiful ballerinas! I've got my eye on some beautiful new shoes that I think might just inspire the footwear of tomorrow's tutu-clad dancers!
My journey starts at the Salle Le Peletier in Paris. This gorgeous theatre is already a legendary venue for ballet and opera, and I'm absolutely giddy with anticipation to see what wonders await inside. It’s hard to imagine the joy and thrill of seeing the most iconic dancers of this era on stage, their grace and fluidity bringing stories to life before your very eyes. The joy of it all makes me want to burst into a chassé!
In the UK, things are heating up at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, too! It's been the leading venue for opera and ballet in London for over a decade, and I hear there's a special treat on the horizon. They’re showcasing an opera about the incredible life and triumphs of the most revered Queen of the time - Queen Victoria herself! It’s a story I'm sure is brimming with the same majesty, elegance, and, dare I say it, romanticism as the age itself!
But it’s not all about theatres and grand venues! My quest today takes me across the world! The world of ballet isn’t just a beautiful swirl of tutus and graceful leaps; it’s a beautiful language spoken on every stage in every corner of the world.
I'm heading to St Petersburg in Russia. The Tsarist court there is known for its exquisite appreciation for the art form and even houses a dedicated school. My pink tutu will certainly stand out amongst the exquisite ballgowns of the upper classes there.
I’m ready to get lost in a world of tulle, romance, and endless possibilities! As a ballerina and an aspiring historian, I find it inspiring to know that my passion is just as timeless as this beautiful art form itself. We may be from different centuries, but ballet unites us all, from the grand opera houses to the dusty pages of history.
But that's enough of a peek into my journey for now! Remember to visit www.pink-tutu.com next month to see all the wonderful things I've found in my travels through history!
Don’t forget - always wear your tutu, dream big, and most importantly, never stop dancing!
See you soon,
Emma
