Pink Tutu Travels: #1706 – A Dash to 1803!

Hey Tutu-lovers! It’s Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-traveller, ready to whisk you away on another magical journey! This month, we’re venturing back to the early 1800s, specifically the 2nd of February, 1803! Now, I know what you're thinking – "No tutus back then?!" Well, hold your horses (and by horses, I mean Magic Meg – my pink-sparkling shire horse with those divine golden hooves and a flowing mane and tail whiter than a freshly-powdered dancer’s stocking!) – the world of ballet in the early 1800s was exciting, even if the tutus were still in their early stages!

So, let's mount Magic Meg and set off on our time-travelling adventure! The cobblestones are dusty, the air is crisp with a hint of frost, and the aroma of horse manure (not so pleasant, Meg!) hangs in the air, but it's all part of the experience, isn't it? My trusty leather rucksack is packed and ready for all the fabulous ballet stories and treasures I'm going to discover.

London Calling: 1803, A Ballet Bonanza!

We've landed in London, and it's bustling with activity. I've spotted some incredible displays of fine millinery - I simply MUST pop in to some of the fashionable hat shops! And wouldn't you know it, the grand opera house is just around the corner! But we’re not here for a standard performance, oh no! This is the world premiere of a very special ballet, Le DéserteurThe Deserter. Imagine the excitement, dear friends! The music, the storytelling, the costumes - I’m giddy with anticipation! It’s a perfect illustration of how ballet, like fashion, is constantly evolving, even in the early 19th century.

And, in a historical footnote for our ballet-obsessed minds, this same year, the Italian ballet master Domenico Angiolini arrives in London! This man was a pioneer, introducing innovations that paved the way for a more fluid and expressive style of dancing. Imagine - even in 1803, the ballet world was already experiencing an explosion of creativity!

Time-travelling Inspiration: My Pink Tutu Musings

Seeing Le Déserteur on this day has sparked a new vision in me – my very own Pink Tutu Ballet inspired by the era! Just imagine, darling, swirling satin, delicate ribbons, a touch of velvet and lace, maybe even a few embellishments on the bodice! I can picture myself floating on stage as the graceful ballerina of a storybook tale!

My rucksack, it’s bursting with the inspiration and treasures from this adventure. I’ve managed to secure a little hand-stitched dancing doll dressed in a delicate pink satin costume – absolutely divine! I even picked up a vintage sketch from the Le Déserteur costume design – can you imagine?! And of course, my trusty notebook is filled with details about 1803 London and its ballet world - fascinating and inspiring!

Spread the Tutu Love!

As you all know, my mission in life is to make the world a more fabulous, pink-tutu-filled place! This little journey into the 1800s has reminded me that the spirit of dance, creativity and, dare I say, a little pink, is timeless.

My dearest Tutu-loving friends, I hope this month’s trip down the rabbit hole has been inspiring for you. If you’re in the mood for some vintage ballet charm, be sure to check out some historical photos and even sketches from 1803! I am constantly on the lookout for amazing pink tutu fashion from the past – who knows what vintage wonders are out there? If you find anything spectacular, don't be shy, tag me on social media and tell me all about it!

Until next time, dear friends, keep those tutus twirling,

Your Emma xx
