Hello lovelies! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels, your monthly dose of all things pink, all things tutu, and all things ballet! This month, I'm whisking us back to 3rd March 1803. The weather in Derbyshire is a bit crisp, so I'm extra thankful for my fabulous pink tutu, keeping me warm and utterly chic as we set off on a delightful journey to...Paris!
A Birthday for a Ballet Legend!
The most exciting thing happening in the world of ballet on this date? The birthday of none other than the legendary Marie Taglioni! Now, you may think you've heard of her, and you're probably right, darlings! She's the Queen of the Romantic Ballet, the one who brought us the lightness and grace that we all associate with classical ballet. Her en pointe technique changed ballet history, and she was such an icon she even had her own fan club – how utterly fabulous!
We've been following the ballet scene in Paris closely these last few months. It's no surprise that the Opera House is packed for Taglioni's birthday. My leather rucksack is already overflowing with programs and playbills, just waiting for you to get a peek! And, you know, darling, I wouldn't mind a sneaky peek at the costumes. I hear there are some stunning pink silks involved. Imagine a pink silk tutu from that era! Perfection.
On the Paris Scene!
It’s no surprise to you lovelies, I'm sure, that I am obsessed with shopping. But Paris in 1803 was a real fashion wonderland. I mean, imagine the possibilities. Beautiful, swirling silks and satins – even then, designers were going crazy for pink! I’ve already scooped up a few lace trims to add to my own collection. Imagine a gorgeous ballet bag, decorated with this fabulous 1803 lace! It's giving me serious inspiration for my next performance!
Now, I have to be careful about which shops to visit. As a budding time traveller, it's crucial not to interfere with the timeline too much. My secret is finding boutiques frequented by famous artists, actors, and, of course, dancers! They appreciate the power of fashion, too!
Travel Tip! If you're feeling fancy and you want to explore Paris, make sure to check out the Champs-Élysées. You can’t miss the stunning new Place de la Concorde. Even though it was recently completed (only in 1799!), the architecture is magnificent!
Riding into the Past: The Magic Meg Adventure!
Oh, my lovelies, can you believe my pink-loving horse is named Magic Meg? It feels absolutely incredible to gallop through the streets of Paris, with her golden hooves shining, wearing my beautiful pink tutu. And the scent of fresh Parisian bread in the air! I have to admit, there’s a tiny bit of worry about her hooves getting stuck in the cobbled streets – thankfully she navigates them perfectly.
And who else to go shopping with than my gorgeous horse, right? Meg’s been a good sport throughout this entire journey. Sometimes she even gets to try on a fancy pink saddle cloth. It really matches her shiny pink coat! You know, we are fashionistas together.
Where To Go in Paris!
Don't just go sightseeing, darlings. It’s all about the experience! Take in the arts scene at the Opéra Garnier! This building is exquisite, you won't believe your eyes. I could stay here all day, just taking in the grandeur of it all. If I ever had a castle, this would be my design inspiration.
Now, don’t miss out on the pièce de résistance: The Théâtre du Vaudeville. This is where you’ll find all the latest theatrical productions. And darlings, I must share: the sheer exuberance of the audience! They applaud every little bit of drama – a truly divine experience!
And, it’s only natural to end your Paris experience with a delicious afternoon tea. This is my favorite part! I just love those delicate scones, the tiny finger sandwiches, and those utterly exquisite, pink-tinged pastries! This really completes the pink experience!
Bringing it Back Home: Sharing the Pink!
Back in my humble Derbyshire cottage, my collection from the 1800s awaits, nestled in my leather rucksack, whispering tales of fashion, ballet, and history. As I browse through it, I know my heart is full of joy, but there is also a bit of sadness at having to leave the past. I've always known, however, that sharing the love of ballet, history, and pink, of course, is what keeps my time travels going!
So, until next time, I hope you enjoy all my stories and memories! Remember to spread the pink tutu love and follow along with your favourite ballerina blogger at www.pink-tutu.com!
Remember, every day is a dance!
XOXO,
Emma
