Pink Tutu Time Travels - Post #2411: A Dashing December Debut in 1861!

Hello, fellow ballet enthusiasts! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels, where every month we hop aboard the magical Meg and whisk ourselves off to a different era, all for the love of ballet! This month, my little pink heart is doing a pirouette of excitement. We're heading to the 11th of November 1861!

The air is crisp, the trees are ablaze with autumn colours, and a chill wind whips around Magic Meg’s golden hooves. I snuggle deeper into my fluffy pink coat, my delicate tutu billowing gently behind me. The feeling of time travel is like nothing else: a heady mix of adventure, excitement, and a touch of magic.

Magic Meg’s breath puffs out in white clouds as we gallop along the cobblestone streets. This time, our destination is none other than the Royal Opera House in London! I’m bubbling over with excitement as I imagine the lavish decor, the grand chandeliers, and the beautifully-dressed audience.

Oh, and speaking of grand – did you know, just a few weeks ago, the London Theatre Royal opened its doors? With its glittering velvet seats and impressive stage, it’s the perfect location for a truly magnificent ballet production!

Now, in 1861, it seems the ballet world is just as lively and enthralling as it is today. If we had arrived just a few months earlier, we’d have been able to witness ā€œThe Little Mermaid,ā€ a lovely creation from The Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg, or ā€œThe Slave’s Revoltā€ with the Ballet du Théâtre ImpĆ©rial de l’OpĆ©ra, also hailing from St. Petersburg. Such magnificent ballet pieces are truly deserving of the limelight!

You see, my dearest tutu-lovers, the 19th century saw a whirlwind of ballet activity! The stage was bursting with talent and a multitude of innovative pieces. I can already hear the melodious strings and rhythmic beat of the orchestra. What an evening we’re in for!

Speaking of our visit, this is just the start of our exciting adventures. I am so looking forward to exploring all the treasures that 1861 holds, from the ballet-focused shops along Bond Street, where I just know there’s going to be some beautiful fabrics for my latest creation (a blush pink tutu with delicate pearl beading, naturally!), to perhaps meeting with the renowned dancer Marie Taglioni herself! Imagine - a glimpse into the life of such a talented ballerina, a touch of history. Oh, I just cannot wait!

But before I embark on this adventure, a quick update from Derbyshire, England – our local dance studio is holding a fabulous Christmas themed performance, a truly charming and delightful event, perfect for family and friends. And, my dear fellow tutuesques, you won’t want to miss the Nottingham Playhouse's winter ballet production! A whirlwind of entertainment with delightful performances. Such a joy for any tutu lover to behold!

Well, that's it for now! The horses are stamping their feet with excitement, eager to begin our 1861 ballet adventure. Until next time, don't forget to embrace your inner ballerina and wear a little bit of pink!
