Hello darlings! Emma here, back from another whirl through time on the back of my trusty pink-sparkling Shire horse, Magic Meg! August is a particularly delightful month, what with the sun shining, picnics in the park, and of course, glorious ballet adventures! This month, we’re whisking back to August 1877 - a date filled with artistic brilliance and exciting dance developments.

Imagine a world where women were taking the stage, commanding attention, and making waves with their artistry. 1877 was truly a magical year for ballet, and it all centred on the incredible prima ballerinas who graced the stages across Europe!

Enter, The Divine La Argentina!

Let’s start in the grand and majestic Vienna, where a Spanish dancer by the name of La Argentina took the world by storm. Her fiery spirit, her breathtaking technical skill, and her captivating presence left audiences spellbound. It’s not surprising she was one of the most beloved dancers of her time.

You know me, darlings, I simply love historical costumes, and La Argentina was no exception! Just picturing those intricate gowns and shawls she danced in… oh my! Her fiery Spanish dances and dramatic interpretations set the stage ablaze, making her a truly iconic figure in 1877.

Speaking of dazzling dance performances and iconic costumes, how can we forget Paris? The very name screams "ballet" and "fashion", doesn't it? In Paris, at the Opéra, ballerinas were creating magic every night! Can you imagine the exquisite ballet costumes of the day, with their luxurious silks and elegant embroideries? Just thinking about those swishy tutus and feathered headdresses makes me want to whirl across a stage!

But darling, let’s delve deeper into the Parisian scene! 1877 saw the debut of “La Source”, a ballet by the brilliant Ludwig Minkus, featuring a most beautiful score by Delibes. The sheer beauty of this ballet was unparalleled, and it captured hearts worldwide.
